Overpriced and often seriously damaged Postcards.

I really feel so annoyed :angryfire: at the audacity of some sellers I have to say something! I have been collecting postcards for over 60 years on many Topics. I have noticed particulary on Delcampe, that most sellers do not bother to give a full description. I am now registered blind, but with magnification I can basically check the scan out, but scans don't always show quite serious flaws until one is actually holding it. That is why a detailed description is necessary. However, that is one thing, but to sell cards for over £10 approx 12 euros with a clear deep crease visible front and back, is so unfair and not good trading IMO . Cards that have a lot of writing scrawled all over them, severe creases, tears, ink blotches, franking bleeds, are valueless to a serious collector and are only worthwhile for fillers. Either way even if the buyer still wants the card , £10 is far too much money and overpriced. I was utterly shocked and appalled to see one of a series of very popular religious cards, that very rarely go for £6 even , is selling by one seller for over £30!! Its really bad that. I noticed all their other cards are grossly over priced too. I am actually concerned that anyone would be so foolish as to pay that. It really is a disgrace and pulls the fair dealing of Postcards down. How are they allowed to trade with their goods so overpriced? :angryfire:

Don'r worry it is not only in Postcards this happens. All categories suffer from this plague of serious overpricing. This is particularly evident in the stamp categories - there is one seller who prices minimum catalogue items at £1.50 each - value close to nothing. There are many chancers such as one from Pakistan that had a minimum catalogued item for £100 and many of his other items were not much better. Same in banknotes, coins, phonecards etc. etc.

But Delcampe has a great tool at your disposal - simply put them on your blacklist and their items will not offend you ever again unless you unblock them. Maybe if they get enough blocks they will review their pricing as there is little point listing stuff if no one is going to look at it!

I see your point I didn't know it was right across the board. The trouble is I see a few cards I would have bought from them. It is so annoying to see a card one really wants only to discover the ridiculous price. It makes me feel like they think we collectors are stupid. Another seller is selling cards as Frances Brundage there are quite a few of them, and not one single one is Frances Brundage! It is an offence to sell anything which is not what one says it is! Don't these people know that? I sell cards too ones I have duplicates of or which no longer interest me, but I would never rip somebody off. One seller is a well known seller on here, ebay and other sites. I cannot imagine anybody being so foolish as to pay their prices for such common cards , that can be found anywhere. I feel like telling them! I just looked at what I paid for a card the same as the one mentioned for £30 and I paid £4 for it! I have never seen any of this series above £6. The vast majority uphold the ideals within collectable hobbies, but these mercenery people spoil it.

In the case of the Frances Brundage cards I would report them as it would be a clear case of misrepresentation. With any luck a moderator will pick up (one that 'knows' postcards) this 'offence' and take steps to rectify it.

Nobody likes telling people they are wrong, at least I don't, but if unsigned then they should not say anything or put a question mark. Some artists have unsigned work but the images are referenced. However in many cases the seller thinks they look like Brundage or whoever when to a person who knows Brundage well they are clearly not. These are definitely not.

Having only a few postcards listed is self defeating as even fewer people will view your items.

Most sellers have their own formula for selling on Delcampe and in postcards I find it is beneficial to list a few new items often in as many different categories as possible which seems to give good visibility.

You need to remember there are vast numbers of postcards for sale on Delcampe and until you build up a decent client base who 'bookmark' your offerings your items are going to be swamped amongst the vast quantity of material available.

If your stuff is good quality and in the categories that are currently popular (and are search friendly titled) your material will sell. But to begin with it is a slow and arduous process as buyers have to get to 'know' you.

I do not sell normally not on delcamoe anyway, and am mainly a serious collector. I have been for 60 years. My post here concerns only certain sellers , the same ones, (one in particular) who has cards at auction with a most outrageous starting price. I mean something like $50 dollars more than anyone anywhere! These cards sell usually at around $15 top price! It is disgraceful and annoying when they clearly could sell two or three cards immediately but not with a starting price of $22 For these particular cards which normally sell around $10 if that! . It amazes me if they ever sell anything, because for sure he is ripping someone off big time. I am frustrated becsuse I have seen 3 cards I need to complete a series. I would offer a combined price of say $22 for all 3 and that would be more than a fair price for these particular cards, but they are at auction for starting price $22 each!!

Well, when I see some wronge descriptions I write a short message to point out what's not correct. And otherwise, I am happy when somebody send me a message when I have a wronge description. Than I send a Thank you back and change even the description or the category.
And with the prices you can make a lower bid or just send a message with an offer.
I had some of this comunications - it was always simple, I think for both of us.
