I'm getting worse and worse at reading old lettering! Can anyone decipher this shop name? Thames Ditton, Surrey, postmark.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I think that is '' The Joe or other word... Fuller's''

The words ''The'' and ''Fuller's'' I think that is correct, but the other letters between, I can't see.

    Thanks.
    Best regards.

    Hi,

It is 'Fuller's Confectionery', but that is a brand that is sold in the shop.

The name of the shop is above it.

    Best regards,

    Hi,
I know. I'm talking about the name of the shop and not the brand they manufacture. I'm talking the top letters and not the advertising above the door. See with attention and you will read that.

    Thanks.
    Best regards.

    Hi,
Apparently we are seeing different things.
To my opinion 'The Fernery' remains the most probable solution.

Studying the photo there is a sign the the left of the picture that looks like it says Beer Garden and also looking at the shop window there are lots of bottles on show and Fullers is a local brewery so I would guess its a off licence to a public house, most likely the building you can see to the left, there is a pub in Thames Ditton called The Ferry, Iv looked at the pub on google but no sign of this building but it could have been demolished long ago.

Thanks for this. Your reply led me to check out Fuller's Confectionery. It appears that they were an entirely separate company to the brewers, though just down the road in Hammersmith. See Link (http)

I think I'm going to have to give up on this one!

    Hello friend,
Sorry but you aren't seeing well. Tell me why the 2 ''R'' in ''Fernery'' are diferent? And search for the aspect of hand old letters in google and see what is the first letter of second word, next to ''The'' and you will see that is a '' i '' of ''Ice'' and compare the 2 words Fuller's, on top and on the door. You will find similarities. I know that seems strange but it's real. I search in google too and in that area I found very references about Ice cream and fuller's. I only didn't found the shop, perhaps it was not very known or anybody wright about it.

The word Fuller's is a trade mark and would have been seen on a lot of shops selling their products. See the attached image. It doesn't relate to the name of the shop in any way, and neither does the writing. The shop name would have been written by a local signwriter. The references you would have found to Fullers in that area would be to Fuller's Brewery who owned many pubs in West and South West London and were a different company.

Perhaps I'm wrong about some references because some Inglish words I don't understand very well, but the name of this shop meaning beyond the trade mark . ''The Ice Fuller's'' like ''The most full Ice''. Today I see very trademarks names used by other Companies with diferent meanings.

If you send me this amplifiyed image, I can show you how the letters are displayed. I try to take of the image but it's not possible to me. Comes the full page.

I don't think so. In English that just wouldn't make sense as a shop name.

    Hi,
I don't see a sign 'Beer garden' to the left, but I think the sign above the path on the right says 'Tea Gardens'.

They sold Fullers Confectionery, yes, but I'm sure it's not part of the shop name.
