Palace ID

Can anyone id this palace please? The card was posted in Chester. Interestingly it comes from a collection which seems to have been sent between country houses, perhaps from people in service. The writing on the back just says 'This is one of the house taken from the opposite side'. HM.

Sent to 'Radnor', Holmbury St Mary.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Are you sure the picture was taken in Great Britain. I am looking for palace and castle but I did't found anything. A scan of the back side would be appreciate.

    Best regards

It all comes down to terminology: it isn't a palace if it hasn't got a royal connection (except perhaps Blenheim) and it certainly doesn't fit the profile for a castle - it's too big for a country house, so I think the best description would be 'stately home', i.e. the residence of a duke, earl or other member of the aristocracy

I've been looking at "stately homes" yesterday, but couldn't find anything remotely like it.
Yet, it looks vaguely familiar to me - was thinking of Fontainebleau (sp?), but it isn't.
I too was wondering if it was UK, or somewhere mainland Europe.

You are quite right. I only called it a palace because it looked Palatial! I suppose it could be any significant building anywhere! The back is not much help I'm afraid, but I will scan it anyway. Many thanks to those of you who have taken the trouble to look at it for me. Much appreciated.

Of course another problem is that it has been turned into a hotel or country club, or even ceased to exist...
