In theory, you should use "other".
Unclassified is supposed to take anything and everything, if you are not prepared to take the time to properly list your items in the correct category.

However, as no official guidance has been given about this, you are absolutely right, people are using the two interchangeably.

    Hello,

To my opinion, there is a difference between 'Unclassified' and 'Other'.

'Unclassified' means: postcards that you can't classify, for instance if you're selling a card of Belgium that considers the country in general (so that you can't put the card in the category of a specific town or city).

'Other' means: postcards that you can classify, but there isn't a specific category available. For instance you're selling a card of Belgium that considers a town or city, but in the list of towns and cities there is no category available with the name of 'your' town or city. So the category 'Other' means in fact: 'Other towns or cities' (not listed in categories).

I agree however that sellers tend to mix the two categories, but they were meant to be different.

    Best regards,

    Quasar

I don't see the point of 'Unclassified' except at the top (country / continent) level. If a card's in Yorkshire (or wherever) but not in one of the designated towns or cities, it's "Other". The only reason to use Unclassified is when you have no idea where it is in which case it's 'Unidentified' not 'Unclassified'. Delcampe should drop 'Unclassified' and stop making it so easy for bulk listers to dump their usually overpriced stock in inappropriate categories.

I absolutely agree with you as far as the categories is concerned.

Also overpriced items, but how that could be policed, I have no idea.

Rename 'Unclassified' as 'Over-priced to be avoided'. Sorted!

If only it was that simple. They also prop up all over the "proper" categories .

    Hello,

I will ask the Delcampe Newsletter Team to say something about that in a next edition. There are indeed many questions about the difference between "Others" and "Unclassified".

The best differentiation I can come up with is that OTHER is for town and village topographical cards for which there is no discrete category while UNCLASSIFIED is for the odd stuff such as Scottish pipers, national costumes, maps, flags etc. which don't actually belong anywhere in the topographical sections

When the change was made, this was the message from Philippe in the moderator forum:

And, last but not least, another important modification has been made : "Other" categories have been added everywhere on the site in order to allow the members to put their items on sale if they don't find the appropriate category among these which are already listed. We thank you in advance for your forthcoming actions in order to check if items in these "Other" categories couldn't be better placed in existing categories.

All the "Other & Unclassified" categories have been renamed in "Unclassified" where members can put their items without worries about the item being in the best category or not. This is of course not the best place if they want to get the best visibility.
