    Well done Charon.

I suspect that for most counties just 1 or 2 town/cities should be enough.

Does that mean that it's going to be your job to move everyone's listings into the correct categories? :grimace:

Sounds like the haunting cry of the Somerset farmer: "Oi! Gerrof of moi laarnd!"

I will personally see to it that your postcards are not treated roughly in any way, shape or form

Pre-boundary changes Sedbergh was in Yorkshire

Since most Westmorland boundaries ran across mountain tops or along the middle of lakes, it's no wonder most people can't tell if they're in it or not. Principal towns are Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Windermere, Grasmere, Ambleside and Shap

To pick up on your previous post, I don't think we'll ever get it 100% 'right' as I can see the argument from both sides, but my personal preference is to put towns in the counties they were in when the card was published; add in overseas sellers who probably know little of our administrative counties (like I know nothing of the Paris subdivisions) and there'll be stuff listed under 'Other' for some time

Re. mint cake, I think the stuff must be deliquescent. Leave it anywhere in a moist atmosphere and you'll return to a sticky blob of minty syrup

Frontier towns will always pose a problem - Bournemouth, Warrington, Middlesbrough, Barrow-in-Furness to name but a few, and my history books tell me we've had this problem with Berwick-on-Tweed for centuries! Then there's the creation of 'Greater London' in the 1960's which swallowed up many villages from their ancestral counties.

As long as buyers don't mind browsing through two categories, or are prepared to use the search facility, then we shouldn't have too much of a problem. What I think is important is that towns with a large quantity of cards (like Bournemouth) have their own category so that smaller places aren't swamped.

    Hi Charon,

Did you send this proposal using our Suggest a Category form ?

    I do not find it.

Please send it again, eventually at info@delcampe.com too. Philippe, our freshly arrived employee is now adding lot of new categories... it's the right time for suggestions :wink2:

    Thanks, Sebastien

    Hello Sebastien,
I sent the original message to Evelyn, and have been in subsequent conversation with Matthias who has received a copy of the suggested changes which has been passed on to your categories department for consideration.

Appleby the county town, Kendal the largest town.

Kendal also gave us TV historian David Starkey, writer Desmond Bagley, astrophysicist Sir Arthur Eddington and painter Gorge Romney, and has strong connections with John Dalton and Alfred Wainwright to name but a few.

My home town lays claim to me (lol).

Make of that what you will.

Good new possums! The Delcampe elves have now given us Counties in the Republic of Ireland, as well as rationalising the towns and cities of England and adding the 'missing' counties in Wales and Northern Ireland

The bad news is someone (me) is going to have to move one heck of a lot of cards from 'Other' and 'Unknown' into their proper berths, so my apologies in advance for any inconveniences and cock-ups

Don't worry if you don't see anything happen for a while as I'm off for two weeks' holiday on Friday, psyching myself up for the work ahead!
