Slate sawing, England or Wales?

    Hi all,

Does anyone recognize this slate sawing machine?
It is a photograph without any caption or clue whatever.
Bought in France, I always thought it was from there, esp. in Anjou where most slate quarries were (still are).
I had a chance to show it on the French forum recently, and local experts tell me they don't think so, and suggest the British Isles. So here I am!

It started there with an altogether different subject:

    and goes on there:

I checked on this booklet I have:
"The Slate Industry" par Merfyn Williams, Shire Album n° 268 (excellent collection!)
I didn't see anything like it, but I did see a clue: most workers wear light-colored caps, like in my picture! On the French postcards, there are caps, but maybe not so many and rather darker. A bit slight maybe...

Well, if by any chance a slate specialist reads this... cool!
    See you soon.

    Hi
I have several slate quarrying cards from North Wales but have not seen one like this. In Wales the slate cutting generally used to be done in a shed (due to the rain!) or by hand.

Does the picture have a postcard back? If so can you post a scan, I may be able to identify the country from that.

    best regards

    Hi Kayoj,

Thanks for your message! Unfortunately, there is absolutely no clue on the back.
    It's a photograph, not a postcard.
As everybody keeps telling me (on the French forum) that it's not from their area, maybe I'll have it narrowed down to just one place in the end!
