I am in complete agreement with Peter. It is very misleading to list Japanese phonecards in the listings of another country. If I am searching for cards from Brasil, for example, I should not find lots of Japanese phonecards there simply because the illustration is linked to Brasil. I am sure philatelists would also be pretty peeved if similar happened in the stamp listings!

Don't for one moment think the problem is unique to your particular category - both philately and postcards are similarly swamped with incorrect categorisations

However, I think it unreasonable to expect Delcampe to police the categories as they have neither the time nor the resource - or dare I suggest, the expertise - to do so; they provide the categories and it is up to us, the users, to ensure we are using them correctly

One way to resolve this problem is for one or more experienced users to volunteer to be Moderators, thus giving them the ability to move erroneous listings to their correct berths; I have been doing so for postcards and a friend has been doing the same in the philatelic categories and believe me, it is an uphill struggle at times: I am sure some sellers lump everything into the category they used last time with no regard for accuracy (finding Lagos, Mauritius and USA cards under Postcards > UK > Others for example) whilst others get most upset because someone "less experienced them they" dared to move their listings (one comment received by aforementioned friend)

By being a recognised Moderator in your particular area of expertise, other collectors can bring erroneous listings to your attention for resolution, thereby making the site a better place for everyone and hopefully (ever the optimist!) the 'bad' sellers will learn from their mistakes

So don't just sit at home and carp, step up and offer to do something about it

Your concern is pretty valid and well put

I am %mod_charon when I have my moderator head on, and as noted I concentrate mainly on UK postcard categories; the fact I came across this thread was a combination of pure chance and having a few minutes to kill which I spent 'channel hopping' on the forum

The moderator system seems to have largely fallen by the wayside since it was first introduced; apart from my good friend %mod_carol I have encountered only one other moderator in the last four or five years, and have written to Delcampe about this matter, also the out-of-datedness of the Moderator Guide

Anyway, I know Delcampe have undergone a few staff changes over the years so it is possible your request was lost in one of these changes, or as you say, buried under a pile of other contact notes; that is why I suggested contacting Sebastian direct, or our English-speaking contact Evelyn

NOTE TO DELCAMPE: Can we have an updated list of staff contacts please?

Please note however, that as a moderator I have no authority within Delcampe other than that of trying to organise the categories, and cannot speak on their behalf on matters of policy or anything else

'smee again - I am surprised (a little) and disappointed (very) that no-one from Delcampe has bothered to contact anyone about your concerns, and I agree it shows appalling lack of both manners and business common-sense

When I've had enough of wading through the swamp of postcards I'll have a look at the phonecard categories - might as well trample on a few new toes - but the way new postcards are being dumped into any old category at an alarming rate makes the Stygian stable seem like light housework, so if anyone has any particular category in mind for urgent sorting please let me know

Did someone mention BEER? Put me down for a pint of Theakston's or Black Sheep - oh, and don't forget the crisps...

Worst hangover I experienced was when I was 'nominated driver' and drank alcohol-free Kalibar all evening - sat up next morning and left the back of my head on the pillow

I haven't tried the DB as I don't normally drink bottled ale, but can recommend Old Speckled Hen as a good falling-down juice! I tried Wadworths 6X once but although I loved it, it hated me with with a vengeance. Ah well, there's always Stella....

A really good idea; if enough of us write and complain perhaps something - though I'm not sure what - might be done

As a moderator trying to make sense of postcard categories I often feel as though I'm swimming against a very strong tide, and anything that goes towards helping browsers (= potential buyers) has got to be a good thing

As for the other thing, sorry - we only rent beer, not buy it...

Rarely visiting the forums I was surprised that this thread had taken off after a long period of dormancy.

I am in agreement with most of the sentiments expressed and would, for one, be happy to act as a Moderator in the phonecard or Philatelic area though my time would be severely limited in such a role due to other commitments..

Part of the miscategorisation problem is the lack of correct places to list many items. For example it would help if the Philateic country listings had a separate category for covers. Many countries or entities do not have a category - eg in Phonecards only one 'Congo' category exists despite their being two issuing entities - Kinshasa and Brazzavile. In stamps Zimbabawe, Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia have to be lumped together. Malaysia has to cover the issues of Malaya and all its state issues as well - try looking for Perak, Negri Sembilan and the like as an example. Then there are those who deliberarely miscategorise in order to try to gain more exposure to their items. If these are targetted they may then get the message to list their items properly in the future.
