Billet de nécessité / Notgeld : Gutschein 1/2 Mark - Gemeinde Stroebeck - valabilité: du 1.er Octobre 1921 jusqu´au 31 Avril 1922 - ceci est un billet de banque local - pas carte postale ! / this is a local banknote, not a postcard ! (dimensions 7,5 x 11 cm / size 7,5 x 11 cm) - à voir le dos du billet de banque aussi ! / take a look at the backside of the banknote also ! Stroebeck est un village dans les montagnes du Harz, près de Halberstadt en Allemagne orientale. La légende raconte que dans l´an 1011 A.D., Henri II d´Allemagne a décrété que le comte de Gungelin soit remis à l´évêque de Stroebeck et soit maintenu à l´isolement. Le prisonnier a passé ses longues heures à jouer aux échecs contre lui-même, en utilisant une planche tracée sur le sol du donjon et de pièces d´échecs en bois sculpté. Il a gagné sa liberté en enseignant ses gardes à jouer aux échecs et le jeu a été transmis à leurs amis et parents. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, la ville a imprimé un billet de banque indiquant Bismarck comme le champion du monde en échecs... Stroebeck is a village in the Harz Mountains, near Halberstadt in eastern Germany. Legend has it that in 1011 A.D., Henry II of Germany decreed that the Wendish Count of Gungelin be delivered to the Bishop of Stroebeck, to be kept in solitary confinement. The captive spent his long hours playing chess by himself, using a chalked-out board on the dungeon floor and chessmen carved from wood. He won his freedom by teaching his guards how to play chess and the game was passed on to their friends and relatives. During World War I, the city printed a bill showing Bismarck as the world chess master...
