YANKA KUPALA (1882-1942), an iconic Belarusian poet and writer. He is regarded as a founder of modern Belarusian literature and a key figure in the Belarusian literary renaissance. Kupala's work, particularly his poems and plays, is deeply intertwined with the history and cultural identity of Belarus.
