1906 1c. black & purple with ERROR overprint "BRUNEI" in BLACK and 10c. on 16c. (Pos. 80 with re-entry of letters "OLO" of COLONY) tied by "BRUNEI/1/APR/1909" to small piece. (Background: The 1c. stamp with the black overprint comes from one sheet of 100 which was a colour trial rather than an error. It was inadvertendly sent to the post office of the State were it was discovered by the Assistant Resident, F.A.S. McClelland, who purchased the whole sheet. The largest part of it, a block of 16, survived until 1947 when it was sold for £300 and subsequently sub-divided. A RARITY OF BRUNEI PHILATELIE. B.P.A. certificate. (SG £3000)
