The bank was founded as the Central Bank of Ireland (Banc Ceannais na hÉireann in Irish) in 1943 and since January 1, 1972 has been the banker of the Irish Government. The bank's head office is located on Dame Street, Dublin, where the public may exchange non-current Irish coinage and currency (both pre- and post-decimalization) for Euros.
This "Series A" was commissioned by the Central Bank of Ireland and were designed and brought into circulation between 1928 and 1977. They were devised by the Currency Commission and were printed by Waterlow and Sons, Limited, London which was acquired by De La Rue. Each note has a portrait of a woman, believed to be Hazel, Lady Lavery – wife of the artist Sir John Lavery, who was commissioned to design this feature. Each note also contains a watermark of the Head of Erin.
Obverse (front) – Green on a pink and yellow underprint with portrait of Lady Lavery
Reverse (back) – Green on a white underprint with Custom House River Mask.
Grading – VF – An attractive note, but with some evidence of handling and wear. May have several folds both vertically and horizontally. Paper itself is still relatively crisp and not floppy. There are no tears into the border area.
