We welcome you to our exciting first Public Auction of 2019
Packed with great material, including a portion of the exceptional Roy Sass specialized Australia collection featuring some amazing assemblages of North West Pacific Islands.
British African “gems” include: Bechuanaland 2d overprint in green; an ancient British Central Africa £25 from 1895; Kenya & Uganda’s 50R – mint with script CA wmk; Uganda typewritten 20¢-100¢ - including some “V. R.”s and many Togo overprints highlighted by a 1M first setting.
British West Indies “nuggets” feature a used “Cotton Reel” from British Guiana 1850 12¢ blue and a Trinidad 1857 (1d) rose-red, mint.
British Asia has a few “pearls” such as a Selangor 1897 $25 postally used plus a Perak #1, used. Ceylon brings an 1860 1/- slate-purple – perf 13x13.
British Europe “shines” with superb Q Victoria Great Britain. Used: an 1878 10/- (Plate 1) and an 1882 £1; mint: an 1867 5/- plus Officials. The “Kings” are also well represented.
British North America “sparkles” with superb Canada QV Jubilees ($3 never hindged!) and an early used Newfoundland 1857 2¢ scarlet-vermilion and a mint 1860 6¢ orange-vermilion.
But the “jewels” of this Public Auction lie in Oceania! Australia features nine mint £2 Kangaroos; rare Postage Dues – including a 1907 4d dull green perf 11. There is a wonderful 1871 Fiji Times Express 9d mint and seven New Zealand “O.P.S.O.”s plus a Papua 1909 6d perf 12½ mint and Samoa 1/- on 1M “G.R.I.” also mint. That said, North West Pacific Islands features all three sets of “S”s (Types a-c) including the elusive 5/- (this took many years to form – I know as I helped Roy build it!), plus the rare £1 – 38 (118), mint.
