    A bit of a wild guess, but could it be BOUCHON meaning a small inn?

    I quote from Wilipedia: "The tradition of bouchons came from small inns visited by silk workers passing through Lyon in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries."

    There's nothing 'wrong' with the gableing - there are many buildings of the early-mid Victorian period which display similar ornamentation; we have lots of them here in the Lake District, and other similar towns in Scotland such as Pitlochry and Strathpeffer

    There's nothing 'wrong' with the gableing - there are many buildings of the early-mid Victorian period which display similar ornamentation; we have lots of them here in the Lake District, and other similar towns in Scotland such as Pitlochry and Strathpeffer

    I didn't mean 'wrong' as in 'wrong' but 'wrong' in 'not consistent with the vernacular architecture of the area being considered' - which is what I think you may have been suggesting?

    Since it's obviously a photo card, I might be able to (when viewing the lay out and particularly the stamp box on the back) to tell you :
    a° where it was printed (by whom and/or on which paper)
    b° when it was printed

    About the photographer, sure it is an "H"? And sure abolutely sure it's Bouchen, not Boucher?

    Since it's obviously a photo card, I might be able to (when viewing the lay out and particularly the stamp box on the back) to tell you :
    a° where it was printed (by whom and/or on which paper)
    b° when it was printed

    About the photographer, sure it is an "H"? And sure abolutely sure it's Bouchen, not Boucher?

    At least we can date the card now, viewing the rate of half a penny inland and one penny abroad: 1902< >1918.
    Sure about the Bouchen on the front? When I enlarge the pencil writing on the back, I see 2 points above the word, I wonder what they are doing there.
    I've read the word about 15 times now and every time I come up with something new.
    Last time I looked I thought I saw Bödchen. :what:
    And a couple of hours ago I read it and thought I saw another word, which turned out to be a small Polish village, but quite frankly I forgot the name already. :angryfire:
