Unable to amend invoice - problem resurfaces!

    Normally buyers are able to amend seller invoices if they need adjusting. However, this facility appears to have died again recently, such that invoices are now frozen and cannot be altered.
    I have raised this before as this seems to be a recurrent problem. Could you please fix it back again?

    As far as I am aware, for several years now, buyers can no longer adjust invoices.

    Personally I do not want my buyers to be able to amend my invoices.

    If they think I have made an error they can contact me and I'll amend it!

    I believe that that option has not been available since the changes to the checkout system were made. One of the reasons, you can stop your buyer from paying before you've send an invoice, is to avoid receiving payment for the wrong amount - It would make no sense at all, if the buyer could than make changes to the final invoice.

    I believe that that option has not been available since the changes to the checkout system were made. One of the reasons, you can stop your buyer from paying before you've send an invoice, is to avoid receiving payment for the wrong amount - It would make no sense at all, if the buyer could than make changes to the final invoice.

    This facility has definitely been available until recently - I don't know when the checkout facility was altered, but I raised this back in January 2012 and it has been working OK since then.

    It is a facility which is needed for buyers, particularly on international PayPal transactions where the calculations are often wrong.

    Personally I do not want my buyers to be able to amend my invoices.

    If they think I have made an error they can contact me and I'll amend it!

    @wycombe1: Unfortunately not all sellers are as efficient as yourself. Bear in mind that buyers often have to deal with sellers who range from the technically incompetent through to the borderline senile (!) and that on international transactions where my pidgin French/Spanish/German is met with the broken English of the seller then such amendments become necessary often due to additional technical obstacles.

    A typical interaction goes as follows:-

    Buyer: "The fees charged are incorrect. Can you please amend the charges?"
    Seller: "The system will not let me amend the invoice."
    Buyer: "OK - can you please submit a revised invoice for these items?"
    Seller: "The system will not let me produce a new invoice on items already invoiced"
    Buyer: "OK - could you please let me have your PayPal address and I will pay you directly via the PayPal site."
    Seller: "I don't know my PayPal address as I have several email accounts."
    Buyer: ( bangs head against computer monitor ).....

    It really is so much easier for the buyer to just amend the invoice themself, after agreement with the seller, rather than go through all this grief!

    I am being generous here and assuming that the seller does not normally use PayPal and has several email accounts and has therefore forgotten which one is applicable to his account....:dunno:

    Although I can see your point of view I would still much prefer me as a seller to keep 100% control of the invoices I send out.

    I operate on Delcampe as both a buyer and a seller and must admit I have never had the problems outlined with anyone who has sold to me - and some of my purchases have been from non English speakers and I am certainly no polyglot. But I have had problem before with buyers attempting to manipulate invoices without informing me - and I certainly do not want this or the opportunity for anyone to do this.

    I do not allow buyers to pay me until I've sent an invoice and that feature has saved me regular hassle of receiving payments without p&p or the wrong amount for p&p and having to refund.

    You raise an interesting side-issue here regarding the refund to buyers via PayPal as being one that costs the seller money.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I was always under the impression that if you actually reverse the transaction itself via the PayPal website, then it the whole amount that the buyer paid will be refunded automatically to him/her, without any charge to either buyer or seller - as there is no currency transaction for PayPal to charge fees on. This only works if you use the transaction reversal method and not by setting up a new transaction to make the refund.

    Similarly, for partial refunds, the seller needs to make a partial transaction refund on the original transaction, otherwise by setting up a new transaction then the buyer will have to pay a PayPal commission on the received refund. Many sellers don't appear to be aware of this and end up costing the buyer money when giving out refunds.

    That used to be the case.
    For about a year now, if you refund a transaction (the full amount), the seller only gets the % fee back, but no longer the fixed fee. In other words it costs the seller 20p.
