The long-awaited complete reissue of the “Liszt Masterpieces,” the first of a trilogy of DECCA recordings by Agnelle Bundervoët (1922-2015), the greatest female pianist in French pianism, who unfortunately passed away on February 14, 2015.
Liszt players include Josef Pembauer and his student Sigfrid Grundeis, Ervin Nyiregyhazi, Julien von Karloyi, and Georges Cziffra of Hungarian descent, Alexsander Borovsky of Russia, and, in the French school, Valmaleté, Bundervoët, however, is still relatively unknown, perhaps due to the rarity of his recordings, but also because of his ability. Bundervoët,'s performances, which possess the technical sophistication of Lazare Lévy's students and something miraculous that only special artists possess, have been passed down through the generations among avid piano LP record collectors. The “Rapsodhie Espagnole” and “Mephisto-Waltz,” with the concentration and virtuosity again displayed in the legendary Bach-Busoni “Chaconne,” the elaborately crafted and polished “Première Valse oubliée,” and the ecstasy-filled “Au bord d’une Source,” are just a few examples from the 19th and 20th centuries. This is the definitive recording of Liszt's performances that represent the French school of pianism from the 19th to the 20th century.
