Very thick book with hundreds and hundreds of pictures of Dazibao (大字报), the Chinese propaganda posters printed mostly during the Cultural Revolution and up to the opening of China to market economy (1966-1978).With description both in chinese and english language.
Dazibao displayed political, social and economic messages based on Mao Zedong's "Red Book" principles. They were affixed on large boards or on walls in the streets or other public places to "educate" the masses, and they were illustrated by the most famous artists of the time.
The original Dazibao posters are extremely rare and expensive nowadays (many go for over thousands of Euro each), Others have completely disappeared or survive in a handful of copies only, or are held in some museums only.
Impossible to find, completely sold out and forbidden to export outside China due to the political content of some slogan reproduced in the book which are nowadays considered offensive or not aligned with the modern Party's policy
Written and compiled by Mr. Dong Zhongchao, the greatest Chinese dazibao collector and expert whom I met in his antique store Dali some years ago. Mr Dong has amassed the largest collection known, reproducing in his books many unique posters.
This book has been printed in a very small number of copies (1000) and sold in terms of one copy per customer only. It is hard to find nowadays even in China due to the sensitive political messages of many posters. Under the current leadership, sales of this book are discouraged, and it took me a great deal of efforts to find one copy.
MINT condition, got directly from the author and absolutely impossible to find elsewhere
