    Hi all.
At the risk of asking yet another daft question - are there millions of John Thridgould postcards? I have one which is 'Easter Series 115', undivided. The initials J T & Co are in a shield. Search engines throw up very few, and I don't know if that's simply because they are ten a penny?
Regretfully I can't post a scan just at the moment. As always, info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi.... John Thridgould & Co Ltd (JT & Co) of East London were popular printers of postcards, comics etc from immediately post WW2 to the mid 1990's.

There are many in the Christmas & cartoon series but as with everything else, some are not as common as others. I know that they produced a Christmas series which they sold back then for 1/- a pack but I am not sure about the Easter series.

The company was previously known as John Thridgould Publishing and produced postcards back to 1900 or maybe even earlier. Some of these are rare but with the initials JT & Co, I am assuming that the postcard is 1945+

Thank you, Emmbersplace, that it really interesting information! The card is an early one - undivided and carrying the ususual George V halfpenny stamp, although the postmark date cannot be read. Unfortunately I can't yet provide a scan because I'm working on a new laptop which won't connect to my scanner. I may have to resort to photography! Will try to do that this evening.

    cheers,

I am originally a Londoner...the company occupied buildings in Sidney Street, Stepney, Easl London way back from mid 19th century as wholesale stationers then became printers sometime in 1870's or 1880's for over 100 years,

After your mail, I looked them up on Google to make sure that my memory had not failed yet again......fast approaching senility I guess,

But there are loads of referencees to Thridgould as postcard printers. I also saw them on a useful list of postcard printers & their initials produced by a guy in Devon called Dave Tylcoat (also on www)

Thridgould & Co. ceased publishing postcards in 1956 but continued as printers until 1994 - they operated from Sidney Street then moved out to Canning Town

Greetings cards were their speciality - they never produced local scenes as far as I know - pity too!

The firm is listed in Anthony Byatt's book 'Picture Postcards and their Publishers'

Well, for those of you working on Windows 8, you will possibly sympathise with my expletives over attempting what should be the simplest function - scanning a postcard. What a palaver!!!! What would be wrong, one wonders, with having a 'tile' amongst all the other useless 'tiles' which just says SCAN. No. You have to search for WINDOWS FAX AND SCAN. Then you end up with the tiniest writing in a corner, saying 'New Scan'. Good luck finding that one. Then you have to download an app to handle said scan.

But... despite my saggy old brain cells.... I managed it!

So, my friends, my question is... how do I price this little card?

If you're wondering... I don't have any sales on Delcampe at the mo because I've been away from home. Hoping to recommence in the next few days.

    Cheers all,

Personally, if I'd come across that card among my stock, I would have gone: "another greetings card - £1"

Others may consider that too low or too high; I don't know.

Ha ha! A little learned, and rather less earned! :D But it's all good fun, and the gentleman I intend to give it to will be the richer for the information - I hope!

    Many thanks to you both!
