Lavalleja is one of the 19 departments that make up the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. It is located in the East
of the country, being "Mines" its capital and most populous city.

Its surface is 10.016 km² (placing it among the ten largest in the country departments) that in terms of
extension is similar to that of the Lebanon and Puerto Rico. Its population is approximately 60,000 inhabitants.
It is named in tribute to Brigadier Gral. Juan Antonio Lavalleja (born in Mines) for his outstanding military and political
performance during the independence struggle of the country.
TOAD OF SAN MARTIN.

Melanophryniscus sanmartini is a species of amphibian in the family Bufonidae.

It is found in Uruguay and Brazil. Its natural habitat includes temperate grassland, rivers,and rocky areas.
It is threatened with extinction.

COMMON VAMPIRE.

The common vampire (Desmodus rotundus), also known as vampire de Azara (in honorof Felix de Azara), is a species of bat microquiroptero of the subfamily of thedesmodontinos (vampire bats), and currently the only species of the genus Desmodus. It is located in forests and plantations.
The fur is short, bright and harsh, brownish, sometimes orange brown in the back. Presents different morphological
adaptations to its hematofaga power, such as aflattened snout, specialized teeth, and ability to move four-legged
leaning on the forearm of the wings retracted. the length of the body with the head reaches between 6.8 and 9.3 cm. in length, the 1.3-2 cm foot, 1.5 to 2 cm ear and the length of the forearm from 5.3 to 6.5 cm; It has no tail. It weighs between 19 and 43 g.
