1915-1920's "EAST AFRICA - The Developement during and after World War I": Specialized collection of the postal history of East Africa influenced by the First World War, from the German East Africa era, the various occupation periods etc. up to the separated countries and areas built after WWI. This extraordinary collection of more than 500 covers, (picture) postcards and postal stationery items as well as hundreds of stamps has been written up on about 440 pages with detailed description, some contents of covers, photcopies and a lot of information more, and it contains various specialized parts as mail from German East Africa, including picture postcards and mail from the German warship SMS "Königsberg" (accompanied by an illustrated book), some covers from MAFIA ISLAND, stamps and FIVE COVERS FROM KIONGA 1916-17, several correspondences from soldiers and officers, also P.O.W. mail from various camps, British and British Indian field post, mail from various expeditions, a wide range of censored mail, a comprehensive collection of mail from Belgian Occupation and later Belgian areas as Belgian Congo (incl. Lado), and hundreds of fascinating and scarce items more. Plus four related books as two volumes of Proud's handbooks, 'The German East Africa P.O.W. mail' (in German) and 'SMS "Königsberg"' (in German). Christoph Gärtner made his hobby into his profession. He started in 1984 and within two decades the Gärtner GmbH developed into a world leading mail order house for postal stationery and became a specialist for thematics and postal history.
In april 2005 the idea to build a place where collectors, customers and investors from all over the world could meet, was realized.
Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
