Eine nur 18 Kilometer lange Bahnstrecke bildet seit 150 Jahren das Rückgrat des Fernverkehrs zwischen Österreich, Liechtenstein und der Schweiz. Diese wichtige Verbindung wird mit einer Gemeinschaftsausgabe gefeiert. Die am 24. Oktober 1872 in Betrieb genommene Bahnstrecke ist bis heute eine kleine Kuriosität. Zum einen ist die elektrisch betriebene Bahnlinie die einzige Eisenbahnstrecke im Fürstentum Liechtenstein; und zum anderen läuft ein grosser Teil des Fernverkehrs, sowohl für Güter als auch für Personen, zwischen Österreich und der Schweiz über diese Strecke – und dies, obwohl sie nur eingleisig geführt ist. Den aus Anlass des 150-Jahr-Jubiläums herausgegebenen Sonderblock gibt es einerseits als Schweizer Variante mit nur der Helvetia-Marke und andererseits mit den Marken aller drei Länder sowie den entsprechenden Taxwerten. Abgebildet sind drei im jeweiligen Land eingesetzte Lokomotiven aus verschiedenen Epochen: eine Dampflokomotive von 1927 für Österreich, ein elektrischer ÖBB-Triebwagen aus dem Jahr 2004 für Liechtenstein sowie die legendäre Re 4/4 II der SBB, die 1964 bis 1985 gebaut wurde.(Text Swiss Post)

Une voie ferrée de seulement 18 kilomètres de long constitue l’épine dorsale du transport longue distance entre l’Autriche, le Liechtenstein et la Suisse depuis 150 ans. Une émission commune célèbre l’anniversaire de cette liaison importante. Mise en service le 24 octobre 1872, cette ligne de chemin de fer électrifiée demeure aujourd'hui encore une curiosité. Elle est la seule ligne ferroviaire traversant la Principauté de Liechtenstein. En outre, une grande partie du trafic voyageurs et marchandises longue distance entre l’Autriche et la Suisse emprunte cette ligne qui ne comporte pourtant qu’une voie unique. Le bloc spécial émis à l’occasion de son 150e anniversaire se décline en deux versions: celui comprenant uniquement le timbre suisse Helvetia et celui incluant les timbres des trois pays avec leurs valeurs faciales respectives. Le bloc montre trois locomotives d’époques différentes: une locomotive à vapeur datant de 1927 pour l’Autriche, une automotrice électrique ÖBB de 2004 pour le Liechtenstein et la légendaire Re 4/4 II des CFF construite entre 1964 et 1985 pour la Suisse.(Text Swiss Post)

Da 150 anni è una tratta ferroviaria di soli 18 chilometri di lunghezza a costituire la colonna portante del trasporto a lunga percorrenza tra Austria, Liechtenstein e Svizzera. Questo importante collegamento viene celebrato con un’emissione congiunta. La tratta ferroviaria, entrata in funzione il 24 ottobre 1872, conserva ancora oggi alcune peculiarità. Da un lato, questa linea ferroviaria ad alimentazione elettrica è l’unica su cui circolano i convogli del Principato e, dall’altro, gran parte del trasporto a lunga percorrenza, sia di merci che di persone, tra Austria e Svizzera viaggia su questa tratta, nonostante sia a binario unico. Il blocco speciale emesso in occasione del 150º anniversario è disponibile sia nella variante svizzera con il solo francobollo elvetico sia con i francobolli di tutti e tre i paesi e i rispettivi valori facciali. Le protagoniste sono tre locomotive di epoche diverse impiegate in ciascun paese: una a vapore del 1927 per l’Austria, un’automotrice elettrica ÖBB del 2004 per il Liechtenstein e la leggendaria Re 4/4 II delle FFS, costruita tra il 1964 e il 1985.

For 150 years now, a stretch of railway just 18 kilometres long has formed the backbone of long-distance services between Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. This important connection is being celebrated with a joint issue. Coming into service on 24 October 1872, this railway line remains something of a curiosity today. First, because the electric line is the only stretch of railway in the Principality of Liechtenstein; and secondly, because many long-distance services between Austria and Switzerland, for both goods and passengers, also use this line – despite it being single-track. The miniature sheet issued to mark the 150th anniversary is available as a Swiss variant with only the Helvetia stamp or, alternatively, with the stamps from all three countries and the face values for each stamp. They feature three locomotives from different eras used in each of the nations: a 1927 steam engine for Austria, an electric ÖBB traction unit from 2004 for Liechtenstein and SBB’s legendary Re 4/4 II built between 1964 and 1985.(text Swiss Post)
