More site crashes the last few days?

    I've noticed the site crashing more over the last few days.

    Sometimes just some pages won't load, other times the site isn't available at all.

    It's becoming increasingly frustrating to use.

    It's a shame, as I thought it had been running relatively smoothly for a while.

    Anyone know what the reason is? Are there more 'technical improvements' going on at the moment, that means its a bit more unstable?

    Yes, it crashed this afternoon, and Firefox didn't like it at all. I had to force a closedown & reboot in order to clear it, and the site did something similar last Sunday as well.

    I think this is the 3rd weekend in a row, that the site has crashed and/or been very slow during the weekend - not good.

    I think overall sales figures for May were down and June looks fairly low as well (for the site as a whole I mean). As collecting stamps/postcards/etc is a hobby, a lot will be bought/bid on during weekends - not good news if the site is playing up.

    Yes, I agree about the sales - I've been keeping a check on the declared monthly sales figures since the introduction of the item charge and they are well down - obviously to be expected when much of the cheaper items disappeared, but the apparent instability of the site certainly can't be helping. I have a lot of material ready to be uploaded but am holding back in case I lose the lot or something.

    Can someone from Delcampe please give us an update?

    Yes, I agree about the sales - I've been keeping a check on the declared monthly sales figures since the introduction of the item charge and they are well down - obviously to be expected when much of the cheaper items disappeared, but the apparent instability of the site certainly can't be helping. I have a lot of material ready to be uploaded but am holding back in case I lose the lot or something.

    Yes, I agree about the sales - I've been keeping a check on the declared monthly sales figures since the introduction of the item charge and they are well down - obviously to be expected when much of the cheaper items disappeared, but the apparent instability of the site certainly can't be helping. I have a lot of material ready to be uploaded but am holding back in case I lose the lot or something.

    Agree and concur with Moonstone - can we have an update from Delcampe as to what is causing all these crashing problems?

    Particularly as the weekend appears to be the busiest time for business!

    Given that I list roughly the same sort of items and the same number of items each day, have a look how low the views have been on my flag counter since the last week of May. The odd day with a peak, but on the whole much lower that say March, April.

    Yes, I see what you mean. I only installed Flag counter a couple of months ago so I don't have a history for comparison, but the pattern looks pretty similar to mine, and has dropped significantly since early May. I thought it was maybe just me, but perhaps not.

    Personally I'd prefer a lot more than 90%!!!, but agree with you entirely about Delcampe versus other sites when it comes to actually selling something.

    Thank you for your quick response, Benjamin. I hope it gets sorted quickly as having a situation where the site crashes because of visitor numbers is not good. The only result of that situation ongoing will be that you will not have any problem in future because nobody will visit!!

    But there really should not be these outages all the time - particularly after the recent fee increases. It does not encourage regular site usage if it is unavailable without explanation at odd times.

    It was completely down again this morning. Just as I loaded the lister to start working on today's sales. That wouldn't load, because it couldn't access the site to get updates. Then when I went to upload my listings I ended up with a "hung" lister, which I had to close via task manager.

    Today was my last lot for a few days; I hope Delcampe get their problems sorted before I start listing again next week.

    My worry is that it might crash when auctions are ending.

    Or that it is down for a while at some point in the last few hours of an auction (even if its back up again at the auction end time)

    Even if its just down for half an hour or so, that's a potential bidder lost.

    I know that sometimes during serious prolonged crashes auctions are automatically extended, but that doesn't necessarily mean someone who tried to access the site when it iwas down will return later!

    I'm interested in why these crashes/outages or whatever are taking place. The installation of new servers was supposed to put paid to these problems. I wonder if it is the same problem that was voiced before - that of certain sellers clogging the servers up by dumping huge quantities of material onto the site on a revolving basis?

    If this does happen to be the case it may help to explain why sales and footfall are down to many smaller sellers shops - if their items are being constantly swamped by such dumping and also unavailable because the site has crashed.
