I have bought a substantial amount of cards (for me, a private collector anyway) from a seller. The cards were good, and I continued to search their shop. I saw more and purchased them, and after paying for registered post for one lot , 2 days after I saw some more I liked and purchased those too, +registered airmail again! (5.30 euros) . two more days after that, I found some more, and paid for those + registered post again 5.30 euros).
So, in less than seven days I purchased 3 lots of cards and paid 5.30 euros each time for registered mail Now fair enough, IF the cards had all been sent seperately, but they WEREN'T! They all came together in an ordinary envelope, not a rigid one as I had requested on each occassion.
I e-mailed the seller asking for a 10.60 euros refund back into my paypal account, but as yet they have not replied. I really don't want to stop buying from this seller, but I am annoyed about this and quite shocked to be honest. If that were me I would have sent a message saying I was sending altogether. and to watch out for a refund of 10.60euros to the paypal account. My concience wouldn't allow me to do otherwise. I am very disabled and my income is very low, and I save hard for a long time to buy cards , my great passion! I cannot afford to give away money like that.
Is it unreasonable of me to think that this is dishonest of the seller? I haven't accused them of such but I am in truth thinking it!
    Your advice is much appreciated.

    Hello Wassail,

In this case I advise you to start a so called "Dispute resolution process (" My Delcampe > My Control Panel > Dispute resolution). This function gives sellers and buyers the opportunity to try to resolve the dispute and gives both parties a chance to explain their point of view. If no solution can be found, you can then ask for our intervention. A Delcampe administrator will try to help you resolve the dispute or to re-establish contact with the seller.
(Note that a dispute resolution process can only be started if the end of the transaction does not exceed 60 days)

If you do not receive any word from your seller in a week's time, please contact our support team and we'll help you to the best of our ability.

    Best regards,

    Dimitri from the Delcampe Team

It seems from the envelope itself, that the weight was well within the boundries of one postal charge. There was no "packing", although I had requested a rigid envelope (so that it would be hand franked) but it was just a normal envelope used for sending a letter. These envelopes with cards in, then go through a machine and accidents happen, I do wish sellers wouldn't send precious cards like that, I would never dream of sending one card that way never mind 5 or more!
I have sent a polite e-mail and a message, but no reply as yet.

Delighted to say the seller has responded and explained it was an oversight. I am SO pleased, I will now go and buy some more cards from them as a gesture of goodwill. A happy ending! Thank you to all who posted replies.

Well I was told I would have the charges refunded but, it is now nearly 10pm here and I got the message about 10am, but no notice from paypal to say I have received a refund. Lets hope I don't have to chase it up. Again I personally would have done it BEFORE sending a message, to say I had refunded the money not GOING TO! .
Regarding packaging , on Delcampe I find this the norm. A couple of postcards sandwiching the purchased card, or even just one backing card! Early last week a card arrived and truly without exageration, the envelope was wide open and badly torn on the lower two corners. I was shocked that the card was ok! Furthermore, it rains a lot here! and damp envelopes easily come undone. Sellers constantly say they are not responsible for damaged or lost mail,,but bad or insufficient packing results in damaged cards, and illegible writing of the address resuilts in loss or mis-direction of mail. That in my book makes them responsible.

You are right! Royal mail AND paypal say that the "sender" is responsible until the person receives the item . I was told that within a transaction the buyers responsibility is to pay for the item ASP certainly within 3 days and to contact the seller if there is a delay from unavoidable circumstances. Once payment is made the buyers responsibility within the transaction ends.
The seller has to pack the item correctly and label it clearly and correctly WITHOUT Abbreviations such as "UK" or "ST." ( I had 2 packets diverted to japan of all places because the sender put UK! That was the reason given). They remain responsible until the person has the item in their possession. I always request a rigid mailer or a strong envelope. I have often had a card sandwiched between cardboard in an ordinary letter envelope, and when damp the contents become too heavy for the damp paper and it breaks through. I would dream of sending a much wanted item in an ordinary envelope it is asking for problems to occur. I don't mind paying 40p extra or whatever for a strong envelope . This request seems to be totally ignored by the vast majority.
(I'm having a real gripe here! Sorry!)

I am pleased to read that, although as a buyer I would prefer the card in a rigid plastic sleeve or two RIGID pieces of cardboard, Inside a polythene bag, then inside a bubble lined envelope (or other strong durable envelope), or in a sleeve inside a polythene bag with the address of the sender and recipient inside as well as outside, and the whole in a cardboard mailer.
Somebody once sent me 25 C.Klein cards from germany, in and ordinary envelope, nothing else, not wrapped in a packing slip even. I am constantly looking for sellers who do send cards this way. I collect many subjects of illustrated cards and have an enormous collection on each subject.

Stamps in a glassine bag with a card stiffener in a C6 envelope will weigh less than 20g no problem but adding a stock card makes it borderline or slightly over with a corresponding increase in cost

A single postcard in a board-back envelope will weigh over the 20g band limit - no way to avoid it - so must be charged accordingly

Many first day covers are larger and so require bigger bb-envelopes still and I often find these weight in over 40g

We've discussed it before, but being able to set postage against individual items is helpful (until postal rates increase) but on D* I just quote 'typical' single-item postage charges as a guide to prospective buyers, or will send accurate costs if requested

I have posted twice I think on postage and packing on another topic. Do not think for one moment that sending registered post is safe it isn't! I had two packet sent registered both different senders, both over $300 of cards, and both lost/stolen. Why were they lost? Did the sender PRINT the address? (sometimes the writing is totally illegible) , Did they abbreviate it? Did they write "postcards" on the contents? I do not know, but I never got either, and all those lovely cards are gone. NEVER put "postcards" as contents, always simply "printed matter only". With registered post the item is NOT tracked in both countries, just the senders. It is then signed for at the door of the recipient. Airsure is about 4pence more, and the item is tracked in BOTH countries , but NOT signed for at the door. I do not know if mainland Europe has this "airsure mail" or not?
Regarding packing I don't mind paying a little extra for correct envelope and packaging. If you could only see the shocking state of some of the envelopes I receive you would NEVER send anything but a letter in an ordinary envelope never mind a much wanted postcard.

    Wassail,

    This is a difficult area.
I absolutely agree with you that it's despicable of your seller to charge 3x "registered" delivery and then send everything in a single consignment. As a seller it would never occur to me to do anything like it. Instead, I try to combine purchases as much as possible and keep p&p costs down as much as possible for my buyers.

As far as "protective" envelopes is concerned. I use boardbacked enveloppes or padded envelopes with card protection for multiple items. Due to the volume of sales I get I can afford to buy specialist envelopes in bulk, reducing the cost greatly. However, buying a small quantity of board backed envelopes in a stationery store like Staples/Smiths works out at about 55p each. This puts hobby/low volume sellers in a difficult situation. They would become very uncompetitive with their p&p charges.

As far as Airsure v International signed for is concerned: Paypal "seller protection" (for what it's worth) requires proof of delivery. As you correctly point out, Airsure tracks the item but does not obtain a signature upon delivery, whereas "International signed for" does not track the item once it's gone abroad, but gives a signature upon delivery.

Within the UK: Last week Thursday I ordered something (approx value £90). It was shipped on Friday. I went out for the day on Saturday. When I came back home around 5 pm there was a jiffy bag on the doorstep. I suppose you can guess: £90 worth of goods were dumped on my doorstep somewhere between 8 am and 5 pm and the sender was notified that the item had been delivered. I just wonder where it would have left me if someone had simply picked up the packet at some point before I returned home. Tracking is not necesarilly a good thing from a buyer's perspective!

You confirm what I said about airsure, I wondered though if there was a similar service from mainland Europe. I take your point about the tracking service . This very thing happened to my son and the jacket was stolen. The mail company who delivered it left it outside the door of the wrong flat , instead of leaving it with the consierge as he should have done in any case. Of course the person who lived in the flat denied all knowledge of finding the parcel . (It a very quiet place). After a great deal of fuss the company did send him another.
If one uses Royal Mail I think one can get repaid if the postman leaves the parcel /mail on a step or wherever whether registered or not. I understand from Royal Mail that is regarded as a serious offence if made by any of their postmen. Unfortunately there are many mail services and they do not have the same rules and regulations as Royal Mail. I always use Royal Mail.
I know too from other business sellers concerning purchasing cheaper card backed envelopes. I am perfectly happy to receive my cards in a hardbacked envelope that has been used before as long as the address is clear and it is well sealed with tape. I never just rip them open I always open with a sharp fine craft scalpel so they can be used again. I know its "Nurdy" but I hate waste!

The trouble with Airsure is, it operates to 24 countries and seven offshore territories only, so anywhere you might need the extra peace of mind it simply isn't available - check the Royal Mail website for details and don't rely on Post Office counter staff to know

I agree 100%. No good asking the staff , one needs to talk to the head dept. Any info I have has come from The Royal Mail London and the misdirected or lost sorting office in Ireland I forget the proper title of that place just at present . They were very informative there and very helpful.
