I'm not getting anywhere with googling these place names. Can anyone help id this card please? It's unposted, but the publisher's print bears the date 1969. Thank you.

    Hello,

    I'm transcribing the text as:
    NENESKOMU
    NASIONAL'KOMU
    OKRUGU

    A few considerations:
    1) 'Okrug' is Russian for 'district' (see Link (http) .
    2) The text is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, used in Russia, but not in Finland (Finnish is written in our alphabet).
    3) Probably in Russia exists something called 'Neneskomu avtonomnomu okrugu', 'autonomous district of [Neneskomu]'? This okrug is for instance mentioned in Link (http) a Russion site.
    4) There also exists a Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Northern Russia (see Link (http) . Are 'Nenets' (in Russian written as 'Nenes') and 'Neneskomu' related?

Based on these considerations, I would place your card in Russia/Siberia.
You would need someone who can translate the text properly to be sure however.

    Best regards,

    Quasar

Oh, thank you Quasar! Gosh, I looked at the link map and that certainly looks like a very chilly place! The postcard wasn't posted, so one wonders how it found its way into the collection I bought. Fascinating.

"40 let" means 40th year (anniversary) and the wiki article tells us it was established in July of 1929 so it's a 40th anniversary postcard for the district.

Thank you all for the information. It is amazing what we learn, just through an old postcard!

I'll now put it on the site and see if anyone is interested. I'll try it on UK + Int. for a couple of quid to begin with, see what happens....

    Cheers
