Using old stamps for postage in France

In the past I think the French Post Office allowed the use of Franc denomination stamps for the payment of postage. Is this still the case and what is the current postal rate from France to the UK.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    It is still the case
In France we may frank covers with stamps denominated in post-1960 francs and even pre-1960 francs ("anciens francs") with the exception of a few sets which have been demonetized
    But we have to respect conversion rules : 1€ = 6.56 F = 656 AF
The rate for a priority letter from France to the UK (first weight class) is 1,50 € ,i.e. 10 francs or 1 000 anciens francs!

I think its mean of the British PO not allowing us to use pre 1971 old penny value stamps!
