Cicala Michele, nato a Palmi (RC) il 30 novembre 1931. Ha studiato, diplomandosi nella scuola delle Belle Arti di Reggio Calabria.

Allievo del professor Francesco Frangipane ha partecipato nel ‘48 alla collettiva svoltasi, sempre nelle sale delle Belle Arti di Reggio Calabria insieme ad altri illustri artisti: Guttuso, Bava, Cannata, Cicala Carmelo ecc.

Ha preso parte a varie manifestazioni artistiche italiane, riscuotendo altri riconoscimenti di singolare importanza. Hanno parlato di Lui è scritto con giudizi lusinghieri molti illustri critici su giornali e pubblicazioni specializzate. Mario Ramadori (Pittore) scrisse:

“l’arte è vita, la vita è arte, questo era il credo di Papà Carmelo; così è per Michele Cicala, che in coscienza, evitando mode e riuscendo a mantenere integra la sua autonoma personalità, come atto di fede fa trasparire dalle sue opere, con sapienza cromatica, i valori esistenziali dell’uomo del sud, fermamente deciso ad esaltarli. Superando gli orizzonti della fantasia, nello slancio compositivo, dalle armoniose cadenze luminose col contrappunto dei suoi evanescenti soggetti, ci offre una sinfonia emotiva che solo la sensibilità di un autentico artista ci può dare. Le sue opere sono poesie plastiche che mettono in evidenza la ricerca per un recupero della connotazione arte-culture-uomo; che ai più sfugge”.
