Early 18th-century copper-engraved map titled Scandinavia complectens Sueciae, Daniae & Norvegiae Regna, created by Johann Baptist Homann, Nuremberg, ca. 1720. This edition predates Homann’s privilege and does not yet include a ruler’s portrait in the cartouche, which later versions do. The elaborate title cartouche features cherubs and trumpeting figures under the heading Les trois couronnes du nord.
This example provides highly detailed political and geographical information on Scandinavia, the Baltics, and parts of Russia and Poland. Particularly noteworthy is the precise depiction of the Baltic Sea region, Gulf of Finland, and territories like Livonia, Ingria, and Karelia.
