De Gouden Pieter of Peter werd vanaf juli 1375 onder de regering van Johanna en Wenceslas (1355-1383) in Leuven geslagen. Dat men voor de afbeelding van Sint Pieter koos laat zich eenvoudig verklaren; hij was de stadspatroon van de stad Leuven. Het voorgeschreven gewicht was 2 engels en 20 azen met een goudgehalte van 23 karaat en 9 grein (98,96 %). Deze bij uitstek Brabantse munt was erg populair en werd tot in de 16e eeuw in de financiële rekeningen en contracten van pacht, retributies, renten e.d. gebruikt. Het type is later door hertog Philips de Goede (1430-1467) nagevolgd en korte tijd in 1431 geslagen op het atelier in Leuven (toen met een gehalte van 21 karaat) en tussen 1429 en 1433 op de tijdelijke munt te Zevenbergen.
