United States, Scott #4144 (Michel #4231)(Yvert&Teller #3924)(Stanley Gibbons #4715), used(o), 2007, Presidential Aircraft Series, Priority Mail Stamp, stamp shows Air Force One; the presidential aircraft used by President Harry Truman, a converted C-118 Liftmaster, named the ‘Independence’ was the first aircraft given the call sign ‘Air Force One’ in 1953; after several more iterations of airframes, the current presidential fleet consists of two highly customized Boeing 747-200B (VC-25A) aircraft, one of which is shown on the stamp, two replacement Boeing 747-8s are on order and will be coming next, designated VC-25B; interestingly, the term ‘Air Force One’ is a call sign and not an airplane, when President Johnson flew between Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas and the LBJ Ranch near Johnson City, Texas in a Beechcraft B90, the Beechcraft he flew on was called ‘Air Force One’; $4.60, lithography and engraved, printed by the Ashton Potter USA (APU), serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, issued with water soluble self adhesive gum, ‘USPS’ in black-inked, security, microprint on Engine #3, issue date of ‘2007’ is also in black-inked security microprint at the lower left, and unusually within the stamp frame, phosphorus paper, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: $5.00, considerably off-centered ( fine), large, three-quarter circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, quarter counter-clockwise turned, socked-on-the-nose cancellation with partial mailing details centered in the top left quadrant of the stamp, the lightness of the cancel and its offset nature leaves the main image remarkably clear, surface has the mottled appearance typically left on stamps from the soaking process used on the water soluble transition adhesive on the stamps of the late 1990s and early 2000s; this is due to the different shrinkage coefficients between the ink coating and the paper backing; this mottled effect is near impossible to avoid on used stamps, sound back, good perforations; largely image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.70 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.78 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
