Subject A sepia photographic view of the Stephansdom — St. Stephen's Cathedral — rising above the tightly packed rooftops of central Vienna. Captioned "Wien. Stephansdom." A classic Viennese skyline composition from the early divided back era, the Gothic spire dominating the urban landscape as it has for centuries.
Publisher B.K.W.I. (Brüder Kohn, Wien I), series 214/12. A significant Viennese publisher with an active collector following. Stamp affixed to picture side.
Postal History Posted from Vienna to Monsieur Etienne Augustin, 5 Rue Janin St-Roch, Liège, Belgique. Dated 3 October 1909. Sent at the Drucksache (printed matter) rate, noted in ink on reverse alongside "Vierpseitig" — the all-sides writing endorsement. A hexagonal "2" handstamp appears on the address side, a postal sorting or rate mark. Vienna circular cancel on stamp.
The stamp is the green 5 Heller Franz Joseph I jubilee issue of 1908, issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Emperor's reign. The series was designed by Koloman Moser — a leading figure of the Wiener Werkstätte — making these stamps collectible in their own right beyond standard philatelic interest.
The sender identified by rubber stamp impression: TILDI MELL, Wien II/2, Wittelsbachstr. 5 (Leopoldstadt district). A personal address stamp suggests a regular correspondent.
Era 1909. Early divided back period, Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Condition Good. Overall age toning to both sides, some foxing on reverse, image intact and legible. Stamp well-adhered. Card shows a slight bow consistent with long-term flat storage — no creasing or surface damage associated, expected to respond well to standard flattening. Standard postcard format, approx. 9 × 14 cm.
