Here is an interesting modern decimal airmail cover (the longer DL-sized) from the British overseas territory of Tristan da Cunha.
In good, fresh condition. Neat, typed addresss to a Clarence Street post office box in Sydney. Philatelists are increasingly seeking post-2000s Tristan postal history like this. Featuring the 35p Agrius cingulata and 10p Surgeon's Mortar stamp issues. Postmarked at Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic in 1992.
This island is one of the most isolated oceanic islands in the world and situated almost 3,000 km from the nearest mainland (South Africa). There is no airstrip on the main island so the only way of travelling in and out of Tristan is by boat, a six-day trip from South Africa. With a permanent population of 242, any postal history from Tristan da Cunha is uncommon. However, their stamp issues are popular with collectors of Antarctic, British Overseas territories, UNESCO, WWF, ships, transport or islands thematics.
I have other Tristan da Cunha covers for sale at the moment as I break down a collection. Buy a selection together for an added discount and cheaper postage!
