In the Early Cretaceous
of the Mesozoic or about one hundred and twenty million years
ago(120,000,000 years ago), there lived a unique and archaic biota
in northern China, Mongolia, Siberia, Korea and Japan, which is
usually dubbed the Jehol Biota and best represented in western
Liaoning Province, Northeast China. The extremely well preserved
Mesozoic fresh water deposits in this region account for the
discoveries of over 20 groups of plant and animal fossils,
including plentiful and exceptional feathered dinosaurs, early
birds, primitive mammals and flowered plants,All the fossil
specimens are housed in the institute of Vertebrate Paleontology
and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences.
