LIMITED SALES AND INTEREST

Hello, Robert in Ottawa Canada here. I have an issue which perhaps you can provide information or feedback on. My listings are receiving numerous views but there have been no bids or purchases for over a month. I find this very strange. In the past I have sold a number of items on this site. Recently, I removed PayPal as a method of payment but this should be of no consequence. Are others experiencing a slowdown in sales? Is this perhaps due to the global economic climate? My store is found at: Link (https) If you detect any issues please let me know. Thank you.

If you do not accept Paypal you have effectively cut off half or more of your potential customers.
Also you have a small store with only a couple of hundred items which means your listings soon get swallowed up by the large number of items being put on the site daily.

You could try listing a few new items each day this will keep your items 'fresh' and new comers are more likely to search.

One example - you only have one item from St Helena - a popular territory - so someone searching St Helena is unlikely to find your item and, if they do, will probably find nothing else to add to their order.

Add all the economic woes caused by Trump people are tightening their belts and spending less money on non essentials.

Your have some nice items in your store but because of the low numbers they probably do not come out high in a search list. Have a look yourself - try a search for St Helena and see where your item comes in the list - or any of your other items.

There is a definite slowdown in sales here over the past couple of years, perhaps partly caused by the economic situation, but mainly, in my view, caused by Delcampe's decision to add 10% plus 30c platform fee to each item. This is way above charges on other sites, and means that customers might well look, but then go elsewhere to buy. My sales on Delcampe have dropped dramatically since that was introduced and increased elsewhere!

I assume you had good reason to drop PayPal. Not a choice I would have gone with as PayPal payments represent about 80% of total sales payments for me, but that's just me.
Whatever you do, I wish you well.

Delcampe is a closed system with few customers coming from outside the Delcampe system via Internet searches (since most titles are dull and saying little about what is sold). Also, as wycombe1 explained, you have to list new items regularly for customers to not lose interest. This behaviour has led to sellers who relist their entire stock on a regular basis, which makes it a nuisance to browse search results on Delcampe.

It has become increasingly rare that something that has my interest is listed on Delcampe and much of the items that are listed and are borderline interesting, but could be fillers to an order to make postage more digestable - those items are simply too expensive for their purpose.

Finally, we're talking about sellers that are selling collectible items, who are charging quite high postage (€3-5) for ordinary letters, but in most cases show little care in what is used for postage, yet alone asking the customer what they prefer. At least with a single franked letter I could get back some of the postage by selling or exchanging with someone else.

It's almost dead quiet for sales and interest. I have reactivated myself as an independent seller and have no fees for the items I sell. But I still have stamps for sale on Delcampe but have vastly reduced my stock to sell elsewhere. No point in leaving items here that are not being seen.

The disparity between rising costs (seller/buyer) and declining sales suggests that DC’s 2025 financial performance was under significant pressure, likely resulting in a net loss. Corporate communication rarely highlights these downturns openly, and because the platform tends to minimize negative feedback, there is a good chance this post might be removed. However, the available data speaks for itself, and a more transparent dialogue about these challenges would definitely help manage community expectations.

Hello, I would like to share few toughts from the buyer point of view. I think the site is reaech of items the collectors are looking for. It is nicely structured and the search engine also works good. The transaction system with Mangopay is also quite useful and easy to operate. The key problem lies in the fee structure, the fixed cost of 30 cents per item kills reasonability to buy cheaper items. The cost could be few times higher than actual price of purchased stamp or postcard. From my perspective paying 10% plus 30 cent per item is OK under the condition that for the stamps cheaper than 3 Euro fixed fee is not higher than 10% of its price (not less than 1 cent). In such situation the cost of low value items would never exceed 20% of the purchased items which seems reasonable fees from DC perspective and for more expensive stamps their proceeds would be on the same level. I suggested such solution to DC but as you may expect no positive reaction at all. From my perspective it is the most important factor which caused slowdown in transaction numers.

One thing that could help; is to make buyers aware they can offer less. But it rarely happens. I usually accept them so I can get another item on the site. I don't put it back out to sell with the lower bid price. I close it as a sale. But with next to no sales the listings get stale and it takes a lot of administration to keep new items and take off the old. But a sale opens a gap for a new item. But I don't think buyers know they can make a lessor offer or even combine items. I've gone back to dealing personally more with my collectors, a lot don't go near Delcampe, Ebay or Trademe. So I run them a folder and fill it up for them. And collectors often like to drive or fly here to see their folder for an afternoon searching my files, haggle the bulk price and have a lunch and just talk about stamps.

Hi all, I used to be a regular buyer here, and delcampe was my number one choice when looking for philatelic items. But now it's over, with the introduction of platform fees, it makes more uneconomic to buy from delcampe anymore. My usual buy of multiple items that costs 20-30 euro now have to add 5-10 euro on top of shipping cost. That is a big jump compared to other marketplaces. I know I can try to ask a lower price from sellers, but I understand sellers are also operating on tiny margins, and burdened by other costs too, so I don't do it often. I think delcampe is trying to get rid casual buyers like me, and instead want to focus on big buyers. So sad

I believe Delcampe aims to attract higher-value items to the platform and reduce the share of low-cost items in order to increase the platform fees charged on individual transactions.

However, as we know, excessive platform fees for low-cost items drive away many buyers, since purchasing these items on other sites has become cheaper. Once Delcampe loses buyers of low-cost items, they do not return later to purchase more expensive ones. Exorbitant platform fees combined with unreasonable shipping costs make the situation unsustainable from the buyer's perspective.

What is your point? Why are you promoting non philatelic labels and yourself.

As someone who is a regular buyer, not a seller (yet) on Delcampe, I always prefer to use PayPal for ease of purchase, the security of a refund in the event of non-supply/non-delivery and therefore no need for expensive Registered Mail costs.

Isn't that just great? PayPal provides a service that neither buyer nor PayPal is willing to pay for - insurance, a full refund in case of non-delivery (no matter the reason). The seller has to prove the shipment arrived, which is only possible with tracked delivery, which has actually become quite expensive - an expense the buyer is (mostly) not willing to pay for.
