BAUDEMENT, É.Les races bovines, études zootechniques.
Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, (1864). 1 volume ( plates ). Oblong folio (350 x 480 mm). 87 fine plates of cattle races. As suggested by specialist this is one of the most beautifully produced work on cattle. Many of the excellent plates are after photographs of Nadar, the french well known photographer of the early century womans. Artists like Emile van Marcke, Isodore Bonheur and Barye contributed to this work. \"The plates were produced by a mixed process of photographic transposing on to a metal plate (heliography) followed by handwork of various kinds - soft ground etching, mezzotint and aquatint, the background tint being achieved by lithography\" (D.H. Boalch, \'Prints and paintings of British farm livestock, 1780-1910)\'.
This work was published as a result of the first \'concours agricole universel\' held in Paris 1856. And the best samples were intended to be reproduced in an album. M.Baudement, that was also jury in the concours, was in charge of this publication.
The book is spared in chapters so you have
Plates 1-21 show cattle of \'Iles Britanniques\', ( Durnham Hereford etc... )
plates 22-31 \'Hollande et Danemark\' ( Hollandaise etc..)
plates 32-43 \'Suisse et Allemagne\', (Pinzgau etc )
plates 44-62 \'Empire d\'Austriche\' ( Hongrois Zillertall Galicie etc )
and plates 63-87 \'France\'. (normand etc)
