Invitation to The Horseshoe Ball at The Dorchester Hotel on June 6th 1935 attended by The Duke of Gloucester in aid of Mrs. Geoffrey Brooke's Old War Horse Memorial Hospital for Animals in Old Cairo.
Dorothy Brooke established the Memorial Horse Hospital in 1931; she was wife of the Senior British Cavalry Officer General Geoffrey Brooke. Dorothy Brooke began The Horse Hospital to take care of War Horses from The First World War. Between 1931 and 1934 she bought back 5000 old army horses and mules.
Dorothy Brooke's work was of critical importance and the foundation of The Brooke Hospital for Animals which sustains to this day one of the world's largest equine welfare associations with operations throughout the developed world.
Among the earliest supporters of the Brooke Hospital was H.M. King George Fifth.
