Shipping costs are approx $4,75, (or 3.50 pounds UK) per transaction.
Shipping works as follows: I group sales into batches of around 10 items, and then send the parcel of 10 items via DHL to my agent in the UK. She opens the parcel, puts a UK stamp on each envelope and mails them to each individual recipient. The cost to me is approx 2.5 pounds to the UK and 1.71 pounds to final destination, (or US $ 5.64) in most cases, but can vary. So the total cost to me is approx 4.21 pounds or 5.64 US, for which I charge 3.50 pounds or 4.75 US. So as you can see I subsidize the postage significantly. For smaller orders of less than $5 or 3.70 pounds, I may add a small handling fee to ensure that I at least break even on the transaction, depending on the client's frequency of purchase.
The above clearly does not include any registration costs. Should you require your purchase to be registered, please let me know with the order, and I will provide you with a quote. In general, however, a rough estimate is approx 7 pounds plus a handling fee of 5 pounds for the agent.
Sending bulk parcels to the UK via DHL largely obviates the need for registration, as the less trustworthy leg of the journey, i.e., South Africa, is cut out by using DHL to the UK.
Deliveries take approx. 2-3 days from South Africa to the UK, and maybe another 5 days to final destination, using Royal Mail. And at present I am sending approx 1 DHL parcel every week.
Generally, there has been almost zero losses using this new process (which I started in January 2021), but if there is a problem I will try to make good on such items, within reason, as customer satisfaction is a priority. Registration or insurance is generally not cost effective for run of the mill transactions, and large orders or collections can be sent by courier, as a special request, and a quote will be provided as part of the transaction. Such transactions will be dealt with up front on an individual basis.
All feedback, suggestions and inquires will be gratefully accepted.
