1912-1923 Straits Settlements KGV 50c on 50c Green - Heavy Inverted Red JUDICIAL Cancel with Incused Reverse From the Back and Raised Structure from Front of The Stamp
This is an intact example of a Straits Settlements King George V 50c definitive stamp issued between 1912 and 1923, which is printed in black ink on a green paper background.
The front of the piece features a visually heavy, deeply saturated red ink "JUDICIAL" revenue handstamp cancellation. The entire layout of this cancel is completely inverted (upside down) relative to the stamp frame, leaving the bold capital letters "SINGAPO" stretching upside down across the design. The red ink alignment strikes directly across the original face value, creating a fascinating "50c on 50c" visual overlap.
The original cancellation strike was applied with intense mechanical pressure, leaving clear, deeply incused (pressed-in) letter outlines that are visible from the reverse side, while the corresponding text elements are physically raised and sticking out on the front face of the stamp. Red ink additionally follows these matching lines and numbers, leaving a unique, deeply tactile structural artifact on the stamp that is not easy to produce or reproduce.
The reverse side cleanly retains an original layer of protective backing or heavy hinging paper from its historical handling, through which these deeply pressed letter outlines are sharply and legibly defined. The stamp itself remains structurally sound with complete perforations. This is an exceptional, heavy-strike piece for specialists of Malayan fiscal history or British Commonwealth revenue collections.
