Shipping & Handling in Detail (English only) :
Note : Details about authenticity, payment methods, abbreviations used etc. are given elsewhere. This section concentrates primarily on postal charges.
We combine postage costs. As mentioned above, if you have purchased more than one item, you only pay the postage rate on the item with our highest postal tarif code; your other purchases are included at no extra postage cost. The Postal Tarif Code(s) applicable to your purchase(s), are shown in the lot description(s). Stamps are sent at the buyer's risk. Please check below the table of charges for any special notes about your country. The standard inland and overseas mail, as well as the 'Signed For' services, do NOT include postal insurance. If you require full insurance cover for your purchases, be sure to ask us for the 'Insured' option. Insured letters sent outside the European Union sometimes require customs declarations; please let us know of any special requirements you may have in respect of this.
If you are paying by PayPal,
we apply the following special condition: If you do not wish to pay for the 'insured' option, we are only willing to use normal post or 'signed for' services if you send us an email waiving your right to file a claim through PayPal in the event of any loss or damage in the mail.
PayPal Fees : We charge an additional Pounds 0.25 then +4% on the entire invoice for payment by PayPal. See 'Sales Conditions' for fuller payment details.
Table of Postage Charges:
Prices in this table are in Pounds Sterling and reflect the higher and higher prices being charged by Royal Mail, especially for internationally insured mail. Please see the main item description(s) for the 'Postal Tarif Code' applicable to your purchase(s).
Delivery Times :
We usually send out ordinary mail on an almost daily basis but items which need to be taken to a post office, i.e. anything requiring a signature, are typically only dispatched a couple of times a week, as the post office is some distance away.
Once the letters are in the hands of the post office, delivery times can vary enormously. Mail to France, Germany, The Netherlands, Scandinavia, Belgium and Switzerland is usually quite fast; mail to Italy and Spain is often slow; mail to the USA is quite erratic. Many other parts of the world are slow. Please allow a reasonable time before contacting us about undelivered items.
Note to UK customers : We can deliver to stamp fairs we are attending, if you wish. There is a list of our fairs on the Paper Heritage website.
We try to strike a good balance between protecting items in the post and keeping the postal costs (weight) low. Where a purchase could be placed in a very small envelope, however, we sometimes choose to use a larger envelope than is necessary, in order to improve security.
Now the part, which we do not like having to write, but which is made necessary by the failure of adminstrators in so many countries to insist on safer postal services.
Royal Mail in Britain is reasonably secure and we rarely lose anything internal or to reliable countries abroad. You will be aware of the risks regarding mail into your own country, and it seems most logical to leave it to you to assess this risk, and for you to select an appropriate postal method for your purchases. Clearly, the value of the purchases will affect your decision, but please see the note at the top of the page, if you are paying by PayPal.
Amongst countries which regularly receive mention about postal insecurity are:
U.S.A. : There is no insured service by Royal Mail to the USA and 'Signed For' services seem to be the target of thieves. We believe ordinary airmail to be the most secure, although, of course, it offers no insurance cover. For high value items, despatch by courrier is possible but relatively expensive, of course.
Most former soviet republics
Parts of former Yugoslavia
Certain Latin American countries
Much of Africa
Yes, unfortunately, much of the world seems to have insecure postal services, which adds to everyone's costs and work-load.
Please note that we often use quite large numbers of older commemorative stamps on the mail which we send out, which most customers appreciate. However, if you think that drawing too much attention to your letter might be a problem, please let us know and we shall use less eye-catching stamps.
If you do not accept our PayPal and/or postage conditions, please do not purchase from us
. We cannot be held responsible for failings in the postal service, over which we have no control. It is up to you to choose the method of posting and for you to assess the risk, which will no doubt be influenced by the value of the sending.
Finally, please remember, before paying, to have a look at our 'other items' on Delcampe, so that you can benefit from combining the postage (and also save us a lot of extra work!). Thank you.
* * * Payments INLAND (UK): * * *
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY PAYMENTS BEFORE YOU RECEIVE OUR INVOICE
We prefer cheques in payment, or cash where this can be done at no or low risk. We do not favour PayPal payments for inland purchases but will agree to them in special circumstances. Bank transfers may also be possible, please enquire. Please send us an email requesting an invoice when you have finished your purchases, stating how you wish to pay.
* * * Payments from EUROPE and OVERSEAS : * * *
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY PAYMENTS BEFORE YOU RECEIVE OUR INVOICE.
Please send us an email requesting an invoice when you have finished your purchases, stating how you wish to pay.
1. We accept cash in Pounds Sterling and Euros only
; all monies are sent at your risk and should be sent by registered post. Send only banknotes, not coins. The metal band in banknotes is visible to Post Office machinery in some countries. Cash should never be sent from Spain by ordinary airmail post.
If you are due change from your banknote(s) in excess of one pound sterling, we shall send you mint (valid for postage) British stamps as change. Alternatively, if you are a regular customer paying in cash, we shall be happy to hold any change in credit on account for you. Please remind us in such cases, when making a new purchase.
2. We accept PayPal subject to a surcharge of 25p plus 4% on the entire invoice. Due to PayPal's buyer protection policy on postal sendings, which places an unacceptable burden on the seller, we require customers using PayPal either to pay for insured postage or to send us an email stating that they will not make any claim against us through PayPal in the event of postal loss or damage. See also our Shipping & Handling section with regard to high risk countries.
3. We only accept Skrill
(formerly moneybookers) if you have no other way of paying. Please contact us. There is a surcharge for using this service.
4. Please note that Britain is not in the Euro Zone. The cost of bank transfers is very high in most cases from the Euro Zone and Overseas to Britain, but it becomes a more ecnomic option for high value purchases, for example payments in excess of Pounds 400.00. If this is your preferred option, please note that transfers must be made in Sterling and that you must instruct your bank to charge to your account the banking fees at both ends (your bank's fees + our bank's fees). These two fees may typically amount, we estimate, to around Pounds Sterling 30-40, sometimes even more. IBAN and BIC details on request.
5. We do NOT accept postage stamps in payment.
We often have both auctions and 'buy now' on Delcampe. If you have already won an auction lot, or made some 'buy now' purchases and you are waiting on the result of another auction bid with us, we are happy to wait a reasonable time, so that you can combine purchases. Just send us an email, letting us know how long the auction(s) still have to run. Otherwise, we would ask customers please to make payment within 7 days of our invoice date. If, for any reason, that is a problem, please send us an email. Good communication can prevent lots of unnecessary problems.
If you wish to purchase something but would need to spread payment over a period of up to three months, we can usually accommodate this request. Please contact us before
buying an item (or bidding on a lot) to seek our agreement. We do not charge any interest on such arrangements.
Our prices do not contain, and are not subject to, VAT / TVA or any other taxes, other than any import duties which might be payable in your country.
