Václav Král was a Czech car designer, draftsman, and racer. He was born in Ostrava on 27 September 1936. In 1956, he graduated from the Technical School of Car and Aviation Industry in Mladá Boleslav. In the next 20 years, he was an active motorcycle, autocross, formula racer. Until 1960, he worked as a car body designer for the car manufacturer AZNP Mladá Boleslav, and subsequently in the Energy Research Institute. In 1983, he became a freelancer. In 1994, he also started teaching at the Czech Technical University in Prague. From the 1950s, he contributed to many motoring magazines as an illustrator and writer. He also drew the so-called X-ray images of products for Czechoslovak companies. He was also a promotional graphic artist. In the 1970s, he designed the Metalex racing cars. He created the racing car bodies of the Easter and Mondial formula, Škoda Buggy and Spider, and more than 20 other vehicles. Král’s most famous works include the Tatra MTX V8, Dioss Rebel, and Tatra President. As an industrial designer, he designed not only cars but also other products, such as packaging and laminating machines, computers, and drills. Václav Král died on 26 October 2005.
