Day of the Stamp 1957

The stamp shows the post and telegraph office "Linz 2", which was constructed between 1946 and 1952 as one of the first larger post-offices after the end of World War II. This motif issued in 1957 was sent to many countries throughout the world as an outward sign of the celebrations for the Day of the Stamp. As in the previous years, the Day of the Stamp provided not only a cause for celebration but also for a review of the work done and the future perspectives of philately. Moreover, it was a day to cordially salute collectors abroad, both in Europe and overseas, thereby giving tangible proof of the close ties that link philatelists world-wide. The extra charge levied on this special issue stamp was donated to the Association of Austrian Philatelist Clubs and the Federal Association of Austrian Stamp Collectors´ Clubs, for the purpose of advertising Austrian stamps at home and abroad and improving the image of Austrian philately.
