Globalization, neo-liberal ideas, rationalization, and cost minimization are issues which demand new strategies and solutions - solutions which place people at the heart of development, solutions which embrace progress and do not negate basic social components. Change creates opportunity, but also entails risk. The goal of the ÖGB and it´s unions is "security in change", to provide stability in the face of change, orientation in spite of new methods. Creating and securing jobs from which people can make a living and reducing unemployment are indeed the most important goals of the ÖGB at the dawn of the new millennium. Innovative economic programs and job creation schemes must place people - not profit - in the spotlight. Austria´s unions - the dialog between employees, employers, and the government - must also be implemented on a European level to encourage social development throughout Europe. This international dialog is at the heart of international union-related efforts.
