Italian Edmonson Railway Tickets
I biglietti Edmonson sono quei cartoncini di formato 3 x 5,6 cm che per decenni hanno rappresentato il tipo più semplice e diffuso di biglietti ferroviari.
Prima che venissero inventate le stampanti ad aghi (comparse nelle biglietterie FS intorno al 1980) il modo in assoluto più pratico per disporre di un assortimento di biglietti senza doverli compilare a mano di volta in volta, era quello di tenere in biglietteria varie decine di cartoncini prestampati. Ordinatamente raccolti in un apposito armadio espositore, variavano non solo per la destinazione e la classe, ma anche per la tariffa: non mancavano infatti i supplementi rapidi, i biglietti per ragazzi, i cambi di tariffa e così via.
Edmonson tickets are those famous railway tickets printed on a cardboard with a standard measure of 3*5.6 cm. They have been used for decades in a lot of countries, including Italy. In 1995 they suddenly disappeared from FS tickets offices, due to the introduction of a new rule: each ticket had to be validated by the traveller himself, and the cardboard did not fit into the standard (bus-type) validator. |
