Would it be possible for Delcampe to do the following .

That the Buyer has the possibility to tick in a box which method of payment he will make when he buys a item.

:cool2:This will make it easier for the Seller as he can determine what Surcharges he must add on.:cool2:

:rose:This will stop a lot of misunderstanding from both sides:rose:

:bowdown:To Delcampe to help me in this subject:help:

Ps ....As a Newbie here I donot know if this subject has been discussed before.

Oh have a Happy Easter to all my Customers and Friends :beer::beer:Regards Bob.

That is certainly a VERY good idea !
I am fed up with trying to find out if the seller expects extra when I pay by Paypal, or him assuming that I am not going to pay by Paypal and leaving me to make some absurd calculation if I do.

.......or maybe D should ban pp surcharges altogether (I think this is pp policy anyway) in common with a certain other major auction site.

It is Paypal policy, and in the UK and I think the USA these surcharges are unheard of.

It's a very simple matter to price the goods so that you will get the profit you want even following a payment by Paypal. If the payment is made some other way, you will then get a little more profit than you expected. What's wrong with that? It' s just normal business, like a shop having to allow (even in summer) for the costs of heating the shop in winter.

I agree with you on that one.

The idea that charges are different depending on what payment method is used is a big NO as far as I am concerned.

You don't walk into a High Street store expecting to be charged extra because you wish to use a certain payment method and online buying should be no different.

I agree with you of course, as far as this concerns delcampe, but not with all your reasoning, because people do sometimes ask for a discount for cash; and in markets particularly abroad people expect to argue about prices on all kinds of bases.

In Italy, it's essential to know the word "sconto", discount, because you will so often be offered one even in shops, even when buying something like gold jewellery which you might have hoped had a solid intrinsic value that couldn't be meddled with. "I give you good discount" is in fact a common reaction to our English "I'm only looking", regarded as a cunning reluctance to accept the price on the tag.

Newt,

Your argument is the opposite from mine.

I said I don't expect to be charged extra for paying via a particular payment method.

Haggling/bargaining to get the price down is a different matter and this can indeed be done on Delcampe via their lower bid/group offer facility. And I have managed to do it successfully on a few occasions in shops in the UK as well.

It' s exactly the same, looked at from a different baseline.

(1) The cash price is quoted, but there are extra charges for a payment method which costs the seller money.

(2) A price is quoted which expects payment by credit card (with extra charges for the seller), as this is very common for a large payment in a shop. People don't carry bundles of £50 notes, I have hardly ever seen one. Then there is a discount if you pay cash.

Look at it this way. The actual price of the item is x, the expenses are y.

(1). The price is quoted as x, but most buyers have to pay (x + y).
(2), The price is quoted as (x + y), but some buyers can negotiate to pay x.

There is no essential difference, QED.

You say you don't expect to pay extra for a particular payment method, but if you negotiate a discount for cash, you are expecting to pay less for a particular payment method, and the only difference is the way the seller quoted the price. Admittedly other haggling is a somewhat different matter, although if the seller always expects to be knocked down by (say) 20% because that is the custom, it is very similar.

Newt.
