I have been a member of delcampe for 4 years and still find it strange that despite the most reputable guide to pricing being in US$ that many sellers charge the very same amount - but in Euros. This creates an inflated price and generates the situation that best value for buyers is more often achieved by locating a seller who uses US$ and provides far greater value for money. Why do European sellers not convert on the Euro / US$ exchange rate and why azre people so prepared to pay these inflated prices for bank notes?

bonjour angusleon,
at present the 3 main currency exchange rates are very close so the bargains may still be obtained from europe also. however, it is nice to have praise for my country once and a while from the 'anglais'. at this time, my people, the cajuns, are not found of a particular company of yours. but you know why. and this is a misfortunate situation for the world. i hope it is resolved very soon, but the reality is ....for decades.
amities,
cajunsr.

If I am not very much mistaken, 1 Eur = 1.21 USD.
Therefore, you'd be getting a bargain buying in euros.

You are VERY much mistaken !
If a banknote (or indeed a coin, for the same thing applies for coins of most countries) is priced at $5 in the standard American catalogue, then using YOUR FIGURES (which are correct) the price in euros should be €4.13.
Anybody who charges €5 is overcharging.
With sterling the situation is always worse. Our $5 banknote should currently be priced at £3.42 .
This said, €5 might well be a good price, because catalogues go out of date, and French banknotes (for example) are valued more highly in France than in the USA. It is auctions which determine market prices, so delcampers are deciding all the time what should go in the next catalogue.
I recommend that you do your conversion sums here !

P.S. Confused ? If 1 euro = 1.21 dollars,
then surely 4.13 euros = 4.13 x 1.21 dollars, which is 4.997 dollars.
We are always being told that education systems on the Continent are better than ours.

Oh dear. This is getting worse.
I never stated or believed that Melbourne was in South Africa ! I was merely observing that the weather for the football in South Africa, as on the south coast of Australia, might be unexpectedly chilly because it is winter in the southern hemisphere.
I thought I had already explained this adequately for most people.
How the American team even managed to get to the right place is beyond me.

Melbourne is in Victoria, and the Victoria Falls are in Africa.
If you join the other American tourists in London, you can easily get a bus to take you all the way to Victoria.
I hope this helps.

bonsoir delboy,
yes, the weather must have a 'chilling' effect on the UK goal keeper, eh.
perhaps he should have had some of cajun's special sauce in his hip pocket to keep him warm. it surely worked for our american goalie.

Don't get too excited about the Royal Warrant. It isn't quite so exclusive as your sauce makers would have you believe.

I really don't wish to be rude but having posted a valid discussion point I now receive notifications regarding a string of completely trivial banter which has zero percent relevance..... to anything. Having checked a few other posts this unfortunately seems the norm. So, I'm off to find a credible bank note forum and suggest others utilise MSN instead!
