Hi there

could anyone help me by translating the text on the reverse of this card, which I believe is in Russian?

The card seems to record the deaths of a number of school children in Pionersk - looking at the photograph, sometime in the late sixties or early seventies. The text on the reverse of the card transcribes as ПИОНЕРСКИ КЬТ В училището в с. ястре-бино подреден в памет на уоитите деца (or something very close!) but google's translator can't translate it.

I've attached copies of the front and back of the card, any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a bit of a loss with this one.

Bulgarian! lol that explains why the Russian translation didn't go so well. Many thanks for your help - and the link. I'd have been there forever trying to figure that out. It's not the biggest village in the world that's for sure - and no hint of what happened to the children either.

I tried Russian and got gobbledegook like you, then tried Ukrainian with much the same result, so decided to work through any other countries which use the Cyrillic alphabet

Got it!

The exact transcription is:

ПИОНЕРСКИ КЪТ В училището в с. ястребино подреден в памет на убитите деца

Which translates as:

Pioneering school playground in the village Yastrebino arranged in memory of murdered children

Now I'm really impressed!

After you've done all the hard work I did a quick search on google and it seems as though the six children were murdered by the police for helping Partisans in 1943. A national childrens complex was established in their memory - hence the card.

Finally it all makes sense!

Many thanks

Giselle

That diacritic mark over the 'o' of убитите made all the difference
