I am down in Devon; I spent a good part of yesterday and most of today decorating the dining room. My legs, arms and back are killing me. At least it looks all fresh and clean now and I'm looking forward to putting everything back in place tomorrow.

Pleased to hear you haven't been letting the grass grow under your feet - I've just got back from a very relaxing week at Bridlington, with nothing to do but take leisurely walks along the promenades and coast path, watch the tide alternately come in and go out, and sample several cafés along the way

Monday was a wash-out, but the rest of the week has been fine. I've had my fair share of leisurely walks, pub lunch etc. In these hilly conditions, it's actually much nicer walking this time of the year rather than in high summer; you don't overheat and with few or no leaves on the trees/shrubs it's great to spot wildlife. As well as the usual rabbits, squirrels, blackbirds and tits, we've seen roe deer, buzzard, treecreeper, nuthatch and kingfisher and numerous other birds.

Monday was not too good there either but it didn't matter as we went over to visit brother-in-law in Doncaster; rest of the time it was fine - occasionally sunny but usually a bit cloudy with odd spots of rain, so nothing to spoil it for us

Bridlington has the advantage of being FLAT which given the state of my knee is a blessing after our local 1-in-4 hills and rough paths! Mind you, I've never seen so many mobility scooters in one place, other than at a Motability centre - less chance of being run down by playing 'chicken' across the motorway...

Reality beckons - off to the post office to despatch the latest sales
