I purchased a cigar box full of Notgeld's from a Estate Auction awhile ago.. One of the envelopes contained these three notgelds and the envelope was marked very rare.. Any help will be appreciated as to a value or any info you might be able to supply me with...

I buy notgeld for the art and these that you have are very nice indeed. there is an old-ish catalogue for notgeld but I don't have it (some is in the WPM catalogues but not these) Bottom line: "very rare" in this case seems to be subjective.

this seems like a great site for looking this stuff up as there are over 25,000 notes listed and categorized very well.

Thank you for your help.. The link you gave is a wonderful seller from who I purchased a few bulk postcard lots from a few years ago.. Will be checking my stock out for identification and prices.. Thank you again.. I also just added the NOTGELDS to my auctions with a fair price...

I think that you will find that in practice the pricing of Notgeld is very hit and miss, simply because it is so difficult to come across any authoritative information on an " official" price. Even the Krause catalogue, which does exist but is difficult to get hold of, does not give a price or even a rarity category for individual notes, only for the CHEAPEST of all those issued by each place, which is not really very helpful. (It doesn't list them all separately, so you have no idea if you have the cheapest or not !).

So in the end people tend to go by their own judgement of how attractive or interesting potential buyers might find it, comparing it with prices being asked for what seems to them to be similar stuff. Of course, it is fairly obvious and not seriously disputed that the later ones, almost always found uncirculated, were produced for collectors, and they often have no proper serial number. The older ones which were intended for circulation, some of them with higher denominations too, might be worth more. You should also watch out for issues related to divisive plebiscites (often on the borders of Demark). Three pictures allows me to give you a very basic idiots' guide !
