Because there are 2. The categories are translated from from the French where the first one is Guyane and the other Guyana. And in English they're translated to Guyana.
The first one is in fact he Co-operative Republic of Guyana (British Guiana) and the second one is French Guiana (French: Guyane française, officially Guyane).
To make it even more difficult there should in fact be a third Guyana: Dutch Guiana or Guyana, Dutch Guiana (now called Suriname)

They're still wrong, though. In English, the larger category should be "Guyana" and the smaller category should be "French Guiana".

In fact, only four of the items in the French Guiana category are in the right place, but this is hardly surprising unless they correct it.

you are absolutely correct with the country names. they are listed in the scott catalog and dallay as such for the french colonies. and for the british colonies as well as for suriname. much work is necessary for the philatelic/coin/banknote categories. the staff of delcampe must go back to school and learn the old and new geography.

i didn't know you have become the 'unofficial' keeper of the category gates. but as i long as we have a "bonne oreille" to bend, i can make a few suggestions. perhaps i can send the scott listings by email as a guideline. i tried sending them to sebastien once, but i guess they were lost. then you can compare them with the SG list which is online for free. just register with the site. as for the french catalogs, i only have the dallay and a france ceres. the dallay show most of the dom-tom colonies before independence with the exception of the new hebrides. that is most odd and has yet to be explained by my french cousins. i also have some SG specialized, michel, and other asst. catalogs. i am always at your service.

Out of interest, which Delcampe site are you referring to?

On the UK site there are categories for FRENCH GUIANA with 0 items and GUYANA with 11 so everything looks in order here

My oreille has often been described as many things, but I don't think 'bonne' is one of them

I didn't set out to be the Category Portalmeister either officially or unofficially, but got so fed up of hearing others complain about categories as well as getting miffed myself that I decided to do something about it since no-one else seemed to be doing anything. Guess I'm stuck with it now until someone else volunteers to step up to the plate?

I've got various Gibbons' catalogues myself including the French (part 6) and Commonwealth (part 1) and I'm currently working my way through a small collection of Indo-China POs in China plus French POs in Egypt and the Levant, so getting very famiiiar with these places indeed! I use the online Gibbons frequently but find it very simplistic after the sectional catalogues

There's a good explanation of French DOM-TOM on Wikipedia, although I was shocked to learn it didn't stand for Domestic Tomatoes. Ah well...

To repeat my earlier question though: which Delcampe site are we talking about, as the UK one seems OK

Can we get a serious discussion going on this subject and come up with a sensible suggestion we can put to Sebastian and his team?
