Anyone else had an email asking them to 'renew their account information' with Moneybookers/Skrill?

I looked on the website and couldn't see anything about it so am assuming the email is a spoof.

Definite spoof. There are 100's of these doing the rounds at the moment. You have done the right thing in checking the web site hopefully without clicking on any links in the Email received.

I got one too.

Obvious spoof - it addressed me as: Dear "email address"

I got one this morning too.

It was "from" Lien (http) - ie without the "y" . Mine had the correct e-mail address in the salutation.

If you hover over the link in the e-mail that asked you to confirm details WITHOUT clicking it, the destination shown (usually a pop-up at the bottom left of the screen) is nothing to do with Moneybookers/Skrill.

I forwarded it to security@moneybookers.com for them to decide whether to investigate it or not - then deleted it.

Mike

When there are obvious spelling and grammar errors, these are signs of hacking at work.

Some people simply forgive these errors and move on, but being the spelling cursed person I am, I just see these things without really looking for them.

Always a good idea to go to the web site directly instead of using an e-mail to get you there. Practice safe computing!

Yes, mine too had the correct email address. The point I was trying to make is that companies like MB and PP will address you as Dear Mr/Mrs + your full name, not dear "email address".

Yes, I always spot spelling mistakes too; on this occasion I didn't though!

With the email making the statement that they would always address the reader by their email address - but I thought, yea... well... without that they couldn't have sent the message, could they!

It was a clever one this one and one that might fool people. I always check on the websites first though!

Tbh, once I saw Dear "my email address", I didn't even bother to look any further. I've forwarded it to MB and had a reply from them that it is indeed a phishing email.

I've received a 3rd one this afternoon. Exact same text and spelling/grammar mistakes. Whoever is sending them has obviously not been stopped yet.

Maybe the crooks are taking advantage of the fact that it's holiday time - I've also received phishing emails from Visa Europe (in Dutch), Santander, Nationwide and one other foreign bank - I don't have accounts with any of them.

It does make you wonder though, how they obtain the addresses. We have one main email address, which I use for online selling/receiving payments across all the sites I use and OH and myself both use for all online shopping. This is the address that receives all the rubbish. We both have other email accounts which only get used for messages to friends and family, which have never received a single spam/phishing email.

It seems to go in phases. I haven't had any ebay phising mails for ages and Paypal seem to have gone quiet as well at the moment.

As well as the MB phishing mails I've also been receiving multiples for a European visa credit card and of my own bank these last couple of weeks.

Ah yes......but maybe they really were giants in disguise.....the battle may be futile, though as phishing is probably now a fact of life......ever vigilant me hearties! :psy:
