PAYPAL /
At the beginning of May, PayPal froze payments for items including the name of the countries subject to U.S. embargo(Cuba, Iran, Ivory Coast, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Zimbabwe). PayPal being a U.S. company, they had to apply restrictions.
We were not notified of these by the company. But the numerous testimonies of members allowed us to be quickly aware of the situation. We immediately contacted the PayPal company in order to learn more about this.
They told us that this was the application of a new measure. The overall principle is that the sale of goods cannot bring money to countries under embargo, because in this case they are automatically blocked. This blocking is but only temporary when the names of countries in question are only included in the title of the item and the sale does not bring any money to countries under embargo. This is the case for the vast majority of collectibles sold on our site.
Delcampe being a company based in Europe, we do not apply these restrictions. But the sellers accepting and using PayPal are required to comply with this new measure.
If you need help, we kindly invite you to contact PayPal support.

The stamp is at the same time a necessary object for our postal communications, and a very coveted collectible as well. Did you know that it will soon be celebrating its 175th anniversary?
The first appearance of the postage stamp dates back to 1840 and it is English! It is the Penny Black which revolutionized the world of communications.
Before 1840, it was up to the addressee to pay for the cost of transportation of the mail addressed to him/ her. The price was often very high. The latter being adapted in function of the weight and the distance traveled. Often the recipient could not afford the expense and thus rejected the fold.
The Briton Rowland Hillbecame aware of the negative effects of this system for both the public and the incomes of the postal services. In 1837, he suggested to create labels to stick on the envelopes, so that the postal charge is paid at the outset and not on arrival. He proposed a base price of 1 penny, about 50 times less than the current rates!
It took 3 years for this postal reform to take place due to the opposition of the postal administration, who only saw the shortfall.
The reform finally came into force on 6 May 1840. The first stamp was issued by the British Royal Mail the same year as a portrait of HM Queen Victoria at age 15.
Worth 1 penny and of black color, it is called Penny Black. The success is immediate in the UK and then spread around the world.
The first countries to have issued postage stamps after this were the Swiss cantons and Brazil in 1843, then the United States and Mauritius in 1847. Followed France, Belgium and Germany in 1849 and Canada in 1851. .

CULTURE/ The passion for trains... Trains have always been admired by both young and old either in toys shop storefront as well as at natural size on the platform of a train station...
We find the passion for trains within several fields: photography, the restoration of old trains and especially steam locomotives, railroad scale modeling, collections of postcards, of stamps or of models. Some don't stop at the train itself... They also collect everything related to railway heritage in general such as license plates or mechanical parts.
Did you know that the first train or rather the first steam engine dated back to 1804?
It is in England in February 1804, that occurred the very first entry into use on rails of a steam locomotive. Built by Englishman Richard Trevithick, it could pull 20 tons of freight cars and reached the speed of 8 km/h (4.97 mph).
In 1825, the English engineer Georges Stephenson created the first railway line opened to the public. The use of it is commercial and connects Stockton to Darlington. England is then the first country to develop lines of railroad.
The first regular rail line is opened in 1830. It connects Liverpool to Manchester. This is the beginning of the development of the railways for the transport of persons. In 1900, the first electric motors appeared. They are powerful and compact enough allowing for the introduction of electric traction, still in use today.
Throughout the course of history, several trains providing liaison between peoples have become mythical, such as the Orient-Express, the Trans-Siberian or the Indian Pacific.

SURVEY / Online help
We need you!
In order to continuously improve our services on Delcampe, we propose you to participate in our survey concerning the online helpof the Delcampe website.
When a sale ends, you can easily do the follow-up of the "after-sale".
To do this, go to "My Delcampe" in "Sell: Closed sales (with buyer)" or "Buy: Won bids"
For each transaction, you will find the name of the buyer or the seller as well as all the information as regards the sale. You can follow the status of the transaction and the status of the sending of the item thanks to the box "Follow-up":
When the icons are grayed, it means that the status is not active. The stage of this transaction has not been reached yet. Conversely, when they are colored, it is active. To activate them, the seller or the buyer simply has to click on these according to the status of the transaction.
As regards the payment icons, their activation is automated when the payment is made via Paypal and Skrill used in the frame of the Delcampe e-wallet. Discover in the following lines a precise description of every icon.
Icon "Payment requested"
Indicates that the payment has been requested to the buyer. By leaving the mouse on the icon, it is possible to see when exactly payment was requested.
Icon "Payment sent"
It informs you about the sending of the payment by the buyer. It is also possible to see when the payment was made by leaving the cursor on the icon.
Icon "Payment received"
It specifies whether the seller has received the payment, and if yes, when.
Icon "Item sent"
This fourth icon indicates if the item has been sent to the buyer. It indicates as well when this was done.
Icon "Item received"
It allows to know if the item was received by the buyer. Again, by leaving the cursor of the mouse on the icon, you can see when the item was received.
We greatly advise you to use these icons in order to facilitate the communication with your buyers or sellers. This way, at any time, each one knows at what stage the transaction is!
CULTURE / Bear tamers Whether you are a collector of postcards or not, you have certainly noticed that a lot of old postcards depict bears and their tamer.
This is in fact a very old trade: the bear tamer.
Dating back to the Middle Ages, the trade has particularly developed itself in Europe in the 19th century from the mountainous areas likeAbruzzo,Ariège or certain regions of the Balkans. This job then allowed to meet the needs of the poorest families.
The bear tamers fall into the category of small trades. They travel cities and villages with one or more bears, muzzled and chained to the "pleasure" of the public at the time.
The cubs are first captured, castrated, bred and trained, then taken onto the markets where they serve as attractions. At the time, they were even attributed with all sorts of healing powers for who dares to approach and caress them...
Bear taming is a popular trade at the time. It is a way to entertain oneself and the coming of a bear tamer is always an event. This explains the high number of postcards depicting this job. Some collectors even specialize only in this highly sought theme. It is the notion of lost "small trade" which awakens the nostalgia among collectors of these unusual postcards...

THE WINNER OF THE DELCAMPE CONTEST/

It is our memberRocinante3839. Congratulations!
Our member wins for the second time one of our contests!
CULTURE / For many of us, the lovely season is finally coming back! Which means sun, terrasse and apéritif. Many will bring out the bottle of rosé, some a white wine and others delicious juice fruits. But did you know that for some wine enthusiasts, pleasure is not within the bottle but on the bottle...
Indeed, many fans collect wine labels. The label is a bit like the identity card of the wine. You can find useful information such as the origin of the wine or the producer.
The classification of these collections of labels is done by designation and domain as well as by region. It can also be done by thematic. The labels are then classified according to whether they depict works of art, animals, buildings, vehicles, traditional costumes,…
Historical digression… Did you know that labeled bottles only appeared during the 18th century? The first labels were simple papers which sometimes were written by hand and looking like little business cards. With the invention of lithography, it became possible to print out more complex labels with graphs and colours.
How can the desire to collect wine labels appear? In vino veritas…

Notice to postcards collectors! On the occasion of April 1st, discover our category of stamp dedicated to this calendar event. And no, this is not a joke. Colorful and flowery, these postcards illustrate the traditional theme of "April Fool's Day".
Within original stamps, there are all types of colors, all types of themes and declined to infinity. You thought you had seen everything as regards stamps? And yet! Notice to chocolate lovers, this article might whet your appetite...
The Belgian post has recently launched a chocolate flavoured stamp. Yes, you read correctly! And this is not the first time that a chocolate scents flavoured stamp has been created. Already in 2001, the Swiss post had published a stamp with that smell. This was on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Chocosuisse, the Union of Swiss chocolate manufacturers. The Belgian version is released in March. The adhesive layer on the back is flavoured with cocoa and the stamp has a chocolate fragrance. The taste was incorporated in the form of essential oils of cocoa, so that it is released when licking the stamp.
These stamps present chocolate in various forms: granules, pralines, spread, morsels or even sticks. The sheet of five stamps, dedicated to international shipments, will cost 6.20 euros. Printed at 107.600 copies, they are available from March 25 on, including on the internet site of bpost.

DECOUVERTE "Wiener Werkstätte - The Illustrated catalogue of postcards"/
Discover the illustrated catalogue of the Wiener Werkstätte postcards. The catalogue has been edited by the "Krepostnov Publishing House". This is the first edition in both English and Russian.
The catalogue is devoted to the work of European artists and masters working together in the early twentieth century and united under the name "Vienna Workshop" (Wiener Werkstätte).
One of the strengths of this catalogue is to provide all the images of the Wiener Werkstätte's postcards, as well as the price of each card. The catalogue includes biographies of all the artists of the Wiener Werkstätte and their monogram as well as a detailed list of postcards, an index and various other sections.
Specialists such as Detlef Hilmer, Alexei Ladyzhensky, Marc Lefebvre, Marcus Weissenböck and many more have participated in the creation of this book.
Curious about this exhaustive work? The catalogue is available and sold in the Krepostnov Publishing House store on Delcampe. Do not hesitate to make a detour to contemplate all products from the Wiener Werkstätte.
The Wiener Werkstätte, or Vienna Workshop, was founded in 1903. Originated in the 'Sezessionsstil' (1897 Vienna Secession), this workshop consisted of artists such as painters and draughtsmen (Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Franz Bernhard Kuhn, Josef Karl Schwetz, ...) as well as architects and designers (Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, Dagobert Peche, ...).
Unlike the Art Nouveau which was based on the aesthetics of curved lines, the Vienna Secession affirmed its difference through an aesthetic based on a geometric ideal. The purpose was to realize creations available for every one by reconciling crafts and major arts. Their work was part of the context of the turn of the century and the advent of modern art. The Wiener Werkstätte was devoted to the creation of high-quality products in order to enhance the simple items of everyday environment: architecture, furniture, ceramics, jewelry, fashion, goldsmith's work, woodwork, pottery, fine arts. Vienna workshops are easily recognizable by their double "W" logo.
One of the most emblematic works of the Wiener Werkstätte is the 'Stoclet Palace' in Brussels, considered as a "total work". This particular hotel commissioned by the Belgian banker Adolphe Stoclet has given the opportunity to the founders of the 'Wiener Werkstätte' to carry their idea from start to finish: everything, even the smallest detail, has been designed and built by them.
As soon as 1907, the Wiener Werkstätte began publishing a numbered series of postcards. This collection represents a total of nearly 1000 cards. Most of these cards were created to celebrate the traditional holidays like Christmas and Easter. The cards' topics have become more popular with humorous themes or the representation of tourists' popular attractions.
Find the whole world of the Wiener Werkstätte's postcards on Delcampe. Beautifully illustrated and coloured cards await you on our website..
For this exceptional contest, we offer you the opportunity to win the very beautiful postcard "Eingang in das untere Belvedere" illustrated by Franz B. Kuhn et Josef K. Schwetz in the spirit of the Wiener Werkstätte.
As always, your opinion is very important for us. It helps us to improve ourselves so as to always satisfy you. That is why we invite you to participate in our poll based on this specific newsletter. We would be happy to repeat the experiment with a new theme.

We invite you to express yourself in our new poll about the Delcampe Bonus Card.
We will also do a short technical recap about the management of password. In a few seconds, you will be able to modify your Delcampe password very easily.
POLL/ Delcampe Bonus CardIn order to always improve our services on Delcampe, we invite you to participate in our poll. If you know the Delcampe Bonus Card, it is important for us to have your opinion.
Here is a little reminder of the procedure to change your password. In order to modify it, you simply have to go to "My Delcampe" on "Account" and select "Contact details".
On the contact details page which contains all your information, you have 2 fields "Password". Erase the ****** and replace them by the password that you want. Repeat the operation in the field below to confirm. Don't forget to validate your change by clicking on the button "modify" at the bottom of the page.
You will then receive an email with a link that you have to click on. It will redirect you towards a Delcampe page where you will be invited to confirm your change.
CULTURE / When we speak of collection, we directly think about stamps, postcards or badges. But there exist however less traditional collections... Did you know that cameras are also very popular items among certain collectors?
Collections are always a pretext for small historical anecdotes...
Maybe you did not know it but on March 7, it was the birth anniversary of the father of photography, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. Considered as a pioneer in this field, he made the very first picture of the history in 1826. The exposure reportedly lasted for more than 8 hours. Fortunately, the subjects on this picture were no physical persons patiently posing but well a wing of his property located in France.
The material used for this very first picture was composed of a tin plate covered with some sort of bitumen solidifying when exposed to light. Niépce used to call his process not photography, but heliography. His invention was to be perfected by Jacques Daguerre, whose first daguerreotypes (pictures at the time) were realized in 1837, a step ahead towards our current pictures.

Tue, 5 Mar 2013
Dear members,
You cannot imagine to what extent your testimonies and enthusiasm make us happy!
As you were recently announced, we are currently working to improve our infrastructure to ensure the site a greater speed and high stability.
Last week, a crucial step was the intervention on our main database server, rendering it 2 to 3 times stronger. This is a very important progress.
With this improvement and the constant efforts to optimize the site, the difference, in terms of speed and stability of the site, is already quite visible in recent days. Many of you testify of this by email at info@delcampe.com and on theForum.
We do however not cry victory too soon. One or other server's "sickness of youth" is still possible, and we remain very vigilant.
The next important step will be the addition, improvement or replacement of other machines for the most used features of the site.
All these improvements will have a very positive impact in your purchases and sales of collectibles. We keep on working for you... and thank you for your patience and understanding!
In addition, we continue to expand the site's features that you request on the suggestions form.
See you very soon... on Delcampe.net !

How many people are "watching" your items?
To manage your sales, you could already see at any time the number of visits on each of your items. You now have the possibility to know as well the number of potential buyers who have added your items in their "watch list".
Export your sales and purchases
As a member of the Club+ Gold or Silver, you have the possibility to export the information on your bids or your sales in CSV format. This information includes all the data (price, date,...) on your sales and purchases. From now on, this export will also contain the contact details of your buyers or your sellers.
Feedbacks and new response time
As you know it, the maximum assessment to assign a feedback to another member is 2 months. Unfortunately, certain "ingenious" members sometimes wait the last minute to give their feedback, leaving their vis-à-vis no chance to reply. In order to allow all members to express themselves, we are extending the deadline of three days to respond to a feedback. Thus, you will automatically have at least three days to respond to a feedback, even beyond the two-month limit!
General parameters and ...settings of your store
To change your parameters concerning your account, your purchases and your sales, you had to go to "My Delcampe". For more clarity, we have split the general parameters of your accountand the settings of your storein two different pages.

CULTURE /The New Year of the Chinese calendar. This year, we are entering the year of the snake! On February 10, the Asian world celebrated the Chinese New Year, in so doing bidding farewell to the year of the dragon. This animal cycle is based on Chinese astrology which associates each year to one of the 12 animals of the zodiac.
The New Year is a time of celebration beginning on the 1st day of the 1st month of the Chinese lunar year and ending with the Lanterns Festival, the 15th day of the month. This event is also called Spring Festival. As the calendar is lunisolar, the date of the Chinese New Year always falls between January 21 and February 20 in our Gregorian calendar.
The origin of this festival remains unclear. However, a popular legend tells of a monster called Nian, who attacked the Chinese villages devouring and destroying everything in its way. During one spring, the villagers hung red paper on their door and threw in a bamboo fire on his arrival. Surprised by the bright colours and the crackle of bamboo, the monster got frightened, fled and never returned. Since then, this day is celebrated every year. The word"Nian" has also become the Chinese word for "year".
Did you know it? The Chinese New Year is also a godsend for collectors. This event is the subject of stamps emissions and creations by several postal administrations. What constitutes a collection of thematic philately among fans. Why not take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Asian theme?

PRESTIGE/The family of Prestige auction houses continues to grow ... We are pleased to announce the arrival of German auction house VEUSKENS on Delcampe Prestige.
Active for 25 years, the Veuskens house is specialized in numismatics and philately. Its founder, Klaus Veuskens, comes from a family of merchants whose vocation goes back to more than 200 years of tradition. We invite you to discover the 80th catalogue which includes more than 77,000 lots from the world of Numismatics and Philately. Their latest catalogue is now available on Delcampe Prestige. Click here to submit your bids via Delcampe Prestige until February 2 (7PM - Paris Time)
SURVEY/ Remember, a few weeks ago we have improved the lower bids system. What do you think of it? Your opinion is important!
"SANE LISTINGS" PROJECT/ A few months ago, we had introduced you to the project. After a transition period, the first step is completely effective since January 1, 2013. Just a reminder, it consists in a 0.15EUR fee (or 0.10EUR for Club+ Gold members) for each item sold.
PASSWORD/Since early December, our emails containing passwords have been blocked by certain email account providers. A great deal of our members thus could not receive them. Good news! We have improved the system to circumvent the problem. So you can try again to retrieve your password.
December is here and with it the cold and the desire to keep warm and stay in front of our website which has dressed in its winter colours.
Take the opportunity to learn about our novelties as regards the lower bids system! Many of you have been asking us for these.
This week, discover our winner to the United States Postcard contest, and participate in the new contest launched in partnership with Michel catalogues.
We also announce with great joy that we have joined the APHV association (Association of the Philately Professionals in Germany).
Finally, in this holiday season we honour our "Christmas and New Year" categories, we invite you to send your wishes with virtual Delcampe cards, and we give you some tips to put on sale in our "Did you know it?" section.
We are very pleased to introduce the novelties as regards the lower bids system:
Propose a counter-offer for lower group bids
Until now, a seller who received a lower group bid could either accept it, or reject it.
From now on, the seller can propose a counter-offer on a group bid, of an intermediary amount between the current price and the price proposed by the buyer.
Define a percentage of acceptance of the lower bids
Formerly, a seller could ask to receive or not the messages concerning the lower bids received.
From now on, the seller can also define parameters of acceptance of the offers.
The seller will have the choice between:
- Not receiving lower bids proposals
- Accepting to receive them with a defined percentage and from a defined number of weeks
- Automatically accepting the lower bids with a percentage defined under the current price. This automatic acceptance will not be immediate, in order for the buyer not to know that this is an automatic mechanism (which he could then repeat on each proposal!).
Before, a refused lower bid could be accepted later, as long as the buyer had not withdrawn his/ her lower bid or as long as the sale had not been closed. This could sometimes lead to complaints from buyers who no longer wished to purchase the item given the time elapsed.
From now on, a refused lower bid can no longer be accepted.
A lower bid is only valid for 30 days
Before, a lower bid was valid for as long as the sale was pending.
From now on, a lower bid is valid for 30 days. After this period, the bid is deleted and the seller is notified by email.
The advantages for buyers
The advantages for sellers
In case of automatic acceptance, you will no longer have to wait for the seller's response
Lower bids management is facilitated and automated
A refused lower bid can no longer be accepted, even after a considerable period
Re-galvanizes the sales and allows for a wider rotation of the items put on sale
Possibility to respond to an offer by another offer
Possibility to configure the lower bids acceptance parameters
Lower bids management is facilitated and automated

DID YOU KNOW IT? ... Give maximum visibility to your sales
We regularly receive requests from members who want to sell items in order to then complete their own collections.
It seems important to give you some tips and tricks to give maximum visibility to your lots.
Title: give relevant information on your item; for a stamp, for instance, the country, the number(s) in the catalogue, its condition and one or two keywords directly related to the item (example : France - 377/77A ** Charcot explorer). Many buyers do their research by keywords to find what they are looking for. Providing accurate pieces of information allows for precise researches.
Description: it may be useful to provide additional information that will induce the buyer to bid: the year of issue, the quoted value, the drawing, or any other useful detail concerning the item.
Picture: very important and contractual, it must be as much precise as possible in order to give a good overview of the item for sale. A blurred image on which the item does not appear in its entirety does not attract anyone and can give a false indication of the quality.
(Paying) options of notice of sale proposed by the site: they can also provide excellent visibility to your sale; be it the "list header" option, the "red frame", the "colored back",... These options can catch the eye of members who are wandering through the categories. (To be used with moderation for your budget )
We now invite you to try these few tips which, we have no doubt about it, will enhance the visibility of your items and bring a greater comfort to your buyers.

It has been 90 years sinceBritish archaeologist HowardCarter, financially supported by LordCarnarvon, madethe historic and official discovery ofPharaohTutankhamen's funeral chamberand the treasures that itconcealed. It took themmore than 5years of excavationsto discover the firststone of the young pharaoh's tomb. This eventremains as one of themost spectacularin the whole historyof archeology.Morethan 5000 itemsof rare beautywere brought to the surface. Althoughhe was almost unknownaspharaohafterhis short reign(of about ten years), the young Tutankhamen, sonof Akhenaten andNefertiti, reallyentered in the history books only after thediscovery ofhis tomb onNovember 29, 1922. Indeed, outsideof this place, very fewitemsbearing his namewere to be foundto attesthis presenceas a pharaoh. Hehardlydistinguished himselfas a greatmonarchand it is likely dueto this lack of celebrity that his tombremaineduntouchedby looters.

Difficulties with the change in your password?
Sat, 24 Nov 2012
Procedure to follow if you encounter difficulties with your Delcampe password.
Dear members,
Some of you are encountering difficulties regarding the reception of their new password.
Those difficulties are often related to the anti-spam filter of your email inbox.
Before contacting our customer service department, please try again this procedure :
1. Go to the page "My Delcampe > Lost password?" (or click here). Enter your nickname and click on the button "Send my password to my email address".
2. Wait 5 minutes and check in your received emails (in the inbox linked to your nickname).
3. If the email is not there, check you Spam folder (junk mail folder) of your inbox. Note that if there is an online version, you should use it instead of your e-mail programme (Outlook, etc).
4. If the email is not there, please try again those different points.
As a last resort, contact our customer service department through "Help & Contact > Contact Delcampe" (or click here). They will help you the best they can, but you might have to wait several hours or day. This unintentional delay is due to the significant number of requests that we receive for the moment. This is the reason why, as far as possible, we ask you to try the procedure explained here above before contacting us. It will be faster, for you, for us and for the other members.
Kind regards
Your Delcampe Team
PS: Once you have received your password, you can change it so it is easier for you to remember it through the page "My Delcampe > Contact Details" (or by click here)

Gary Kimovitch Kasparov wrote a new page in the history books in November 1985 after his victory against the former World Chess Champion of the time: Anatoli Karpov.
Born April 13, 1963, in Baku (Soviet Union), he started learning chess with his father at the age of 5.
Keeping on training within the Young Pioneer Palaces chess circle in Baku, he was to reach the rank of third class player. Very hardworking and gifted with an extraordinary memory, he was only aged 13 when he won for the first time the Soviet Junior Championship against opponents older than him, genuinely marking the beginning of his ascent in the chess world.
Kasparov, very active and aggressive in his play, would defeat his opponent Karpov on November 9, 1985. The two legendary opponents in the chess world were nonetheless great friends in their everyday life.
In 2005, Gary Kasparov renounced to recover his World Champion title after losing it to Kramnik in 2000, arguing he had nothing more to prove to the world in the field of chess. He then decided to focus on politics.
CATEGORIES/ In order to facilitate your listings and your researches, we have developed several categories.
We invite you to take a look at them by clicking on the following links!
DELCAMPE CONTEST/We are happy to let you know who won the contest we launched in August. This member has won a very nice Indian Head gold piece from 1908.
And the winner is our member Mivabra. Congratulations to him!
THEMATIC COLLECTION: SPACE/First flight of the Space shuttle (12/08/77)
Until the beginning of the 70s, the launch systems were not reusable: most of the different pieces which made them up would fall towards the Earth or into the ocean waters just after having propelled the payload (satellite, space probe, manned spacecraft) in its orbit. In order to reduce the costs related to the launch of the shuttle, the United Stated planed to use reusable rockets and create the "Space Shuttle".
Do you know the "Enterprise" ?
No, it has nothing to do with the "Star Trek" spaceship! It is actually the first US space shuttle which flew on its own for the first time on August, 12th 1977. The shuttle was mounted on a 747 airplane, went flying for 5 minutes and then landed at Edwards Air Force Base.
Four years later, after numerous tests and developments, the Space Shuttle "Columbia" was launched, followed by 130 space shuttle missions.
Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to discover our space categories!

This is a long-awaited novelty that we are offering you today!
As part of the project "Sane listings", we promised to take measures and also to bring new things to our system to improve the user experience of our buyers.
This is an important step of this project: the "Black List" for buyers
What is the reality for buyers? When you want to buy on the website, you usually browse through the same categories and most of the time you do the same search. Sometimes, there are some sellers who only sell items which do not interest you. And, let us acknowledge that this can last on several pages. You may be smiling now thinking "yes, this has happened to me already .... It would be great if I could do something about it!"
What is the solution? To have the possibility to choose whether you want to hide the listings of certain sellers or not. It is now possible to do so thanks this novelty! On the listings, use the icon that you see on each item and choose "This seller: hide his/her items from my lists". Or just click on the icon next to this seller's nickname. And that's it!
In the event that you made a mistake, or you want to change your mind, you can manage your "Black List" by going to My Delcampe > Buy > Delcampe Marketplace > My Blacklist. Sellers will be made aware of the number of buyers that do not want to see their items and the reason why (buyers will obviously remain anonymous!).
The National Philatelic Exhibition, which will take place from 19th to 20th October, will gather over 40 dealers of stamps, postal history and postcards. From the 20th October will be held the 94th Philatelic Congress of Great Britain: the opportunity for collectors to meet, discuss and share their passion. We encourage you to discover more information on those events by checking our agenda.
If you are a professional dealer and you want to open a store on Delcampe Premium, click here!

Novelty, Shows Agenda, Modelling, Prestige and modifications on categories
Tue, 11 Sep 2012
Dear members,
Here's the programme of this newsletter: we invite you to discover a novelty we brought to our project "Sane listings" : the Price Slider !
We then inform you about the setting up of an increased level of security in the contacts made between members on the website.
We also announce you, that this month, we'll have a stand at two shows and we invite you to discover two new stores. The first one offers you the possibility to buy the Delcampe.net"Märklin" trains and the second one is a new numismatics store.
We also invite you to discover the catalogue from the Prestigious Auction House Heinrich Köhler, on Delcampe Prestige.
Finally, we end this introduction with the modifications of some philatelic categories and with our useful "Did you know it?".
Have a good time reading this newsletter and see you soon... on Delcampe.net !
Your Delcampe Team
NOVELTY/ As part of our project "Sane listings", we promise you a whole serie of new things and measures allowing buyers to browse the website more easily than before which will enable sellers to become more successful.
Today, we bring you something new: the "Price Slider". You'll find it in the top right of all listings. What is it aimed at? In one click you could determine the minimum price of the items you want to see.
For example, if you are not interested in items under 5 EUR, put the Price Slider on 5 and all the items under this amount will disappear from your list. It is very handy... and it's that easy!
Note: you can also determine a minimum amount and/or a maximum amount in the section Preferences (left column of the listing). By doing this, you could also, for example, choose to see only the items for which the price is below 10 EUR !
SECURITY/ Lately, we have noticed that the following type of swindle has been increasingly used:
1° A member buys an item at an expensive price from member "john2006".
2° The swindler, spots this purchase in the lists, and from the end of the sale he creates an account "John_2006" which looks a lot like the nickname of the real seller.
3° He then contacts the buyer through our website (since he doesn't have the buyer's email address) and asks for the payment of the item.
4° The buyer, who believes he has received the information from his seller, will thus pay the swindler .... and never will he receive the item he bought!
This type of swindle is obviously really dangerous and some people have already been the victims of it... This is the reason why we have decided to actively fight against this swindle, without delay. For your peace of mind, we have secured the system of contact between members. From now on, you should either be a verified member, or either have had at least one transaction with a member to be able to contact him/her through the messaging system.
For members interested by an item, you still have the possibility to ask a question on the sale, through the form "Ask a question" that you can find at the bottom of the description page.
This can be done whether you have been verified or not.
SHOWS AGENDA/ We are happy to announce you our participation to the philatelic show "Stampex". This show will take place from the 26th until the 29th of September in London.
We will be really happy to not only meet our members but also numerous collectors eager to discover our website. They will also have the possibility to receive for free the new Delcampe postcard that we have specially created for this event. Sebastian and Miranda will be happy to meet you at Stand #36.
More information on this show in our agenda!
Our numerous notaphilists will also have the opportunity to meet us at the numismatic show "Paper Money Fair - Maastricht", which will be held during the same week-end, from Saturday, 29th until Sunday 30th in Valkenburg in the Netherlands.
This show is the most important event for notaphilistsin Europe. Evelyne and Dimitri will be happy to meet you there at stand J4-5, near the cafeteria.
More information in our agenda!
MODELLING/ We have the pleasure to present you the first "Märklin" train with the Delcampe colours. You can buy it exclusively in the "Jocadis" store on the Delcampe website. The Jocadis company was founded in 1978 and is situated in Enghien, a small village 35 km from Brussels, Belgium.
The company sells all brands of trains and accessories. As of today they are also the only ones selling this train with the website colours.
There are 398 copies available of this train. 100 only are being sold through this action... so wait no longer and buy yours!
PUBLICITY / "Comptoir des Monnaies" is a French company created in 1977. On the Delcampe website, "Comptoir des Monnaies" offers a selection of more than 12,000 coins and banknotes, from Ancient history to today and from all countries.
PRESTIGE/ We are happy to announce you the coming of the Prestigious German Auction House Heinrich Köhler on Delcampe Prestige. Active since 1913, their prestigious sales are an internationally recognized philatelic reference.
It is thus with a tremendous pleasure that we invite you to discover on Delcampe Prestige their 350th catalogue which gathers more than 4,000 items..
CHANGE IN THE CATEGORIES/New sub-categories have been added to the category "Stamps> Oceania > New Zealand".
In order to provide a better visibility to their items, we encourage sellers to move their items to the most appropriate category.
DID YOU KNOW IT? ... How to find back your password?
You forgot your Delcampe account password and you have no longer access to the website?

You'll then receive an email with your nickname and password.

Improvements on the website, Delcampe Contest, Categories Newsletter 29/08/2012
Wed, 29 Aug 2012
Dear members,
In order to always improve the features offered on our website, we encourage you to discover two improvements : the change in the time period for the feedbacks and the mediation center and also the automatic refresh of the list of current bids on an auction.
We also have a brand new Delcampe Contest for you to take part in. Through this contest you can win a superb 5 dollar gold coin, with an estimated value of more than 700$ !
We end our newsletter with some information on category changes and our tip of the day about the setting of your parameters in the list of items!
Happy reading!
Your Delcampe Team
FROM SEPTEMBER, 4th!
CHANGE IN THE TIME PERIOD FOR THE FEEDBACKS AND THE MEDIATION CENTER / When you have a difficulty with a transaction, we encourage you to use our mediation center (My Delcampe > Account > open a dispute) in order to find a solution to this issue.
We have made a long-awaited improvement on the following two systems: the mediation center and the feedback system.
Previously, the time period to open a dispute was within 60 days after the sale has ended. But, the feedbacks could be left for a period of 90 days.
As a consequence, a feedback left after 60 days could not be disputed in the mediation center.
From September 4th, the time period to open a dispute will be extended to 90 days and the one to give a feedback will be reduced to 60 days.
Accordingly, the declarations of unpaid items will now have to be introduced by the sellers within 60 days.
We are aware that other improvements should be made to the mediation center, this is only the beginning.
A NICE IMPROVEMENT FOR THE BUYERS / Previously, when a bid was made on an auction within the last minutes before its closure; members, watching it, had to manually refresh the page in order to update the list of running bids.
If members forgot about the refresh they could miss a sale because they would not notice that new bids had been made. Since we are aware of this, we have improved this system.
From now on, in the last minute of sale, the list of bids get updated regularly and automatically.
DELCAMPE CONTEST/ Participate in our new contest and win a superb "Indian Head" gold piece, one of the most popular coins in the United Sates' history.
CATEGORIES CHANGES / The subcategory "Stamps > Europe > Great Britain" was reorganised and now includes decades and the subdivisions "Used stamps", "Unused stamps", "Covers and Documents" , "Unclassified". This should improve the user-friendliness of these categories.
Buyers... Do you know how you can only see new sales in a list of items?
You can set the parameters of your list of items in the categories to only see new sales.
In order to do this, you should go to a category (or you should do a search), in the table "Preferences" (on the top right of the list), choose « New since x day(s) ».
Then, click on "Register my choices".
Please pay attention to this : if you tick the box "Check this box to use these parameters for all lists", those parameters will be saved and applied during your next visits, until you save other parameters.
Softening of the new fee changes

Softening of the fee changes
Dear Delcampe Seller,
You have received or you will receive in the hours that follow an e-mail announcing our fee changes, as a part of our project "Sane Listings".
The decisions we took are important both for you and for us. They aim to improve the global quality of the items put up for sale on the website and to give us the financial means to continue to provide you with a quality service.
These new measures need to be applied as of September1st.
However, as a result of your messages by e-mail and in our poll, we understand that 10 days is not enough time for a lot of our sellers who sometimes possess thousands of items. These are mainly sellers of items of modest financial value. Listening to you and respecting your opinion and remarks is a value we hold dear. This is why we have decided to soften the measures we recently announced.
Here are thus the changes in 3 points:
1) The measure will be applied as of September 1st 2012,
but it will only apply to items put up for sale starting from this date.
(We are talking about putting up for sale, not renewing already existing sales)
2) All of the items which are currently on the website and the items which are put on the website
before September 1st will not be subject to the fixed price charge per item sold.
3) Starting from January 1st 2013 all of the items present on the website
will be subject to the fixed price charge.
This thus gives sellers a 4 months window in which they can change their selling strategy in view of the new measures.
This way we think we answer your demands for extending the deadline and softening the measures, all the while maintaining an essential financial income, which is needed for the functioning of the website.
For 12 years the Delcampe website has been created for collectors. The « small » items deserve the same place on our website as the « big » ones. However, we need to face more and more volume of these small items which costs us a lot of money and server capacity.
Furthermore, our member's demands increasingly go in the direction of such measures. We took these measures today because it is a necessity and we want them to be favorable to all, no matter what you collect.
Our website remains cheaper and more profitable than other websites. Moreover, we are not introducing listing fees and the advantages for which you need to pay on these other websites remain free on ours. As long as you do not sell anything, you do not need to pay us anything. We are keeping true to this philosophy.
The additional financial means will be invested in our services: the essential purchase of faster servers, improvement of website features, more advertizing on and off the internet, a higher quality help section, etc. We all have to gain here; a better website and more buyers.
Should you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us at info@delcampe.com.
Thank you for the trust you place in us.
Best regards,
... and his Team
Our project "Sane listings" - Fee changes
Tue, 21 Aug 2012
Dear Members,
Every day in between 100.000 and 150.000 new collectibles are offered onDelcampe.
In this diversity we can find modest items as well as rare and invaluable objects. The other side of the coin: items for which there is a great interest find themselves hidden in the middle of all the less rare and attractive items. As a consequence of this, increasingly more members are asking us to improve the global quality of the items proposed on the website.
We understand this legitimate request. We find it very important that our members appreciate our website and that they feel well on it. It is for this reason that we try to improve the website every day.
To meet this justified need, we have decided to undertake a big project with you on the whole of the website: “Sane Listings”. This project aims to improve the global quality of available items and will happen in several phases spread over a total of two years.
Presentation of the Project: "Sane listings"
First stage: Fixed fee charged to the seller for each item sold
Today, we announce the first stage to you which will start September 1st.
Its objective is to limit the sale of items of too little value or for which there is too little interest. We are aware that these items can bring happiness to many collectors, but there are too many of them in the categories. This burdens our servers, makes searches slower and makes browsing of the website tiresome at times for buyers.
As a first step we will charge sellers a fixed fee of 0,15 EUR (0,18 USD/ 0,12 GBP/ 0,18 CHF/ 0,18 CAD) for each sold item.
These are of course not insertion fees. Putting up for sale will remain free of charge for members, a fee will only be charged for sold items.
This fixed rate will be calculated once a month, like our commission fee (which remains unchanged). Our last change of rates dates back to more than 4 years ago. These additional means will be used to improve the quality of the whole of the website (new features, more advertizing for the website, better services, etc.)
Of course, items of lesser value still have a place on our website, since we are a website for collectors and we are aware that these items bring hapiness to some of them. However, we advise sellers of these items to group them into batches. Our team remains at your disposal for advice or help (especially concerning your low value items).
Club+ Goldadvantages
Our Club+ Gold members will only need to pay a fixed fee of 0,10 EUR (0,12 USD/ 0,08 GBP/ 0,12 CHF/ 0,12 CAD).
Thanks to this reduction Club+ Gold members will start to break-even at little less than one hundred sold items per month
In principle, this first stage will be the only stage of the project which has an obligatory financial aspect.
In time, when several stages will have been put in work, it will be much more pleasant for buyers to browse through the website in search of news items for their collection. In turn, the sellers will appreciate the fact that their sales are better respresented and thus more attractive.
We are also aware that this change will have an impact on our statistics related to the number of items (on sale, sold monthly, etc.). However, we know that this will improve your daily experience on our website and this is what matters most to us.
Future stages... Express your opinion! This first stage will of course not be sufficient to improve the quality of the listings. This is why we have other ideas in store for the future. Some ideas which are under consideration for future stages of this project are the following:
the possibility for a buyer to exclude the sales of a certain seller in a listing,
automatic closure of sales which have not received any visits for a certain period of time,
an automatic price reduction for items fulfilling certain conditions,
the insertion of at least one picture,
changing unsold auctions to fixed price sales,
etc.
As you can see, there are many ideas for the future of this project. However, we find it very important to have input from our members. This is why we started a new poll. In it you can express your ideas for improving the quality of items offered on the website. We'd like to hear everyone's opinion: both sellers and buyers. Help us by commenting our ideas or by proposing your own.

SCOUTING COLLECTION /« ...the real way to get happiness is by giving out happiness to other people. »
This was one of Lord Robert Baden-Powell's beliefs (22 février 1857 - 8 janvier 1941), the man who created the first scouting camp on the 29th of July 1907 on the island Brownsea.
Robert Baden-Powell, a former lieutenant-general in the British army, devoted himself entirely to the scout movement, which in the course of time has spread throughout the world. Through it he wished to teach solidarity, mutual help and respect. Each young person can use the movement to build a personality and develop themselves physically, mentally and spiritually, so they can become an active citizen in their society.
Today the various scouting associations around the world have a total of more than 38 million members and this spread over 217 countries and territories.
Numerous items related to scouting are/were produced (stamps, badges, magazines, books, novels, scarfs, uniforms, postcards, posters, drawings, photos, medals, etc...) and these are collected by people all over the world. Some of these items can be found on the website.
Are you organizing a fair, show or another event related to collections? Do you wish to advertise this event on the Delcampe website?
We offer you the possibility to announce your event as a sponsored event in the Delcampe Events Diary to the whole of the Delcampe Community and this completly free of charge.

SPORTING EVENT /In July of each year, we have an appointment with the Tour de France, the most well-known bicycle race in the world.
Created in 1903 by Henri Desgrange and the French magazine "l’Auto", the race covered around 2428 km (1,619 mi) and was divided into 6 stages.
In the 80's and the 90's, the race became an International event (it went out of the French borders) and it started to be longer (in 1987, the race covered 4231 km (2,820 mi) and was divided into 25 stages).
Cyclists such as Nicolas Frantz, Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Greg Lemond and Miguel Indurain, among others, formed a part of the History of the Tour when, more than once, they won the mythic "yellow jersey" and broke speed records (with an average of 40km/h - 26 mi/h).
The Tour de France is a sporting and cultural event which gives us a chance to discover unusual places which have now become mythic stages of the race such as the Col de Tourmalet, the col du Galibier or the Alpes d’Huez.
This year's appointement with the Tour takes place from June, 30th until July, 22nd. We encourage you to have a look at our categories dedicated to cycling:

The earth's highest mountain, located in the Himalaya Mountains, was first observed by the Europeans in 1847. And several years later the first published height of Everest was established. Since the 20's, several expedition teams have tried to climb this mountain.
Everest has been climbed on 29 May 1953. Since then, more than 5000 mountaineers have achieved to reach the summit of the World's highest mountain.
This performance is obviously commemorated in stamps, books and documents. We invite you to discover them in our different categories :

The Olympic Games and our section "Did you know it?" Newsletter 30/05/2012
Wed, 30 May 2012
Dear members,
This week, we'll write some words on the Olympic Games. You'll discover their history, their origins and especially the categories which have been dedicated to them on Delcampe. Since the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will soon take place, this is a very good opportunity to have a look at them.
Then finally, we'll give you some good tips in our section "Did you know it?". Don't forget this section which is usually helpful.
Have a good time reading this !
Your Delcampe Team
SPORTING EVENT / The Olympic Games have been created, as their name implies, in Olympia, Greece, in the 8th century BC. They were celebrated in honor of the Greek gods, such as Zeus - the biggest god in Ancient Greece.
However in the 4th century AD, they were abolished by the Roman emperor Theodosius I who put an end to a series of pagan practices.
In 1896, Pierre de Coubertin, French educationalist and historian, took the initiative to revive the Games. They took place, symbolically, in Athens and since then are celebrated every 4 years.
This year will be organized the Summer Olympic Games in London from 27th July until 12th August. It is in the heart of the British capital that 26 olympic sports will be represented among which: athletics, badminton, cycling, tennis, ...
It is thus the opportunity to discover or rediscover our categories dedicated to the Olympic Games !

DID YOU KNOW IT? ... Sales conditions and shipping locations
Some sellers contact us because they are surprised to see that it is impossible for some members to buy or bid in their store.
This is due to the fact that, since February, when a seller ticks a particular geographic region, in his/her sales conditions, it automatically prevents members living outside the authorized regions to buy in their store.
For instance, if a seller only chooses "Seller's country" as authorized location, his/her sales will only be available for buyers living in his/her country.
By doing this, the seller misses potential buyers... sometimes withouth knowing it !
We encourage sellers to check if they haven't been too restrictive when fixing their shipping locations.
The Delcampe website has been created more than 10 years ago ... and it has always been important for us to meet your expectations and to take into account your suggestions.
This is why, even though our community keeps growing, we conduct an annual poll to collect your impressions and opinion about the website. This is poll is important for us as it enables us to ensure that the site evolves while taking into account our members' experiences, both from our new and more experienced members.
We have noticed that many took part in our previous poll, providing ideas, comments and remarks. We have already been able to take this information into account last year...
For 2012, we are counting on you...
... and we hope that even more members will participate!
We have prepared an online form for you. It enables you to tell us:
what you like (5 positive points);
what you don't like (5 negative points);
what you would like as new features (5 ideas);
what our site means to you;
feel free to voice your opinion (suggestions, encouraging messages,...)
- Your answers will remain confidential. We will not communicate them to a third party -
- Thank you to those of you who took part in the survey last year. We are counting on you! -

MY DELCAMPE: MORE ORGANISED !
Our website keeps on evolving and adding new features. This is the reason why, your control panel "My Delcampe" has come to the point where there have been more and more links and menus ... which makes it sometimes hard to use.
We have decided to divide it into 4 tabs clear enough to make them easy to use...
Buy To manage your searches, bids and purchases...
LIVE CHAT WITH SEBASTIEN DELCAMPE ! The IPDA association (Internet Philatelic Dealers Association) has recently contacted us. Since eBay™ is becoming more and more expensive for the collectible sellers, they see in Delcampe an international alternative: serious, reliable and effective.
This is the reason why they have asked us to take part in a live Chat with Sebastien Delcampe called "Sellers, migrate to Delcampe.net!" that took part last Sunday. They were so many questions that the chat lasted for more than an hour !
SUPPORT THE TELEVIE
The Delcampe team was full of energy and endurance to participate on March, 23rd and 24th to the third edition of the 25 hours Indoor Cycling that took part in the Nautisport Club in Enghien (Belgium) ! This event gathered hundreds of volunteers that managed, in a joint effort, to collect 30.125 euros that were then donated to theTélévie.
